Motorola has made the Photon Q 4G LTE official. The replacement for the Photon 4G was spotted at the FCC earlier this month, sporting a 1280x720 display and departing from its predecessor's design by including a slide-out hardware keyboard, running on Android 4.0 instead of Gingerbread, and connecting to Sprint's forthcoming LTE network.
Motorola Mobility has released three videos that illustrate the performance advantage offered by Android Voice Actions compared to the iPhone 4S' Siri feature. The videos below, match up the iPhone 4S with Motorola's Atrix 2, Photon 4G, and Electrify, respectively, and different tasks assigned by voice operate quicker than Siri.
Motorola gave out a detailed timetable of its promised Android 4.0 upgrades that stalled them for most users. In spite of promising most updates early in the year, the original Atrix, the Atrix 2, the Photon 4G, and all international variants on the Xoom 2/Xyboard tablet wouldn't start seeing updates until the summer. The initial batch doesn't start until the spring, when the international RAZR, the international and Family Edition Xoom Wi-Fi models, and the China-only MT917 and XT928 should get their upgrades.
Motorola's Lapdock 100 won't just be confined to AT&T when it ships. A leak Saturday from Sprint's internal employee rewards newsletter relayed to Engadget has the phone-to-netbook transformer shipping on October 21. It would be arriving just four days after it arrives at AT&T linked to the Atrix 2.
U.S. Cellular has announced that it will bring the Motorola ELECTRIFY to its US customers. Much like the Photon 4G, the ELECTRIFY is a dual mode, Android 2.3 smartphone with a dual core 1GHz CPU and 4.3-inch 540x960 display. Onboard memory is 16GB, expandable to 48GB. However, the ELECTRIFY will be limited to Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless.
US Cellular gave out a roadmap for its device launches for the rest of 2011. It planned to launch both an Android-based LTE-based 4G device and its first Windows Phone 7 hardware before the end of the year. It also promised six more Android phones, LTE hardware in November, and an HTC tablet in the early fall that's likely to be the HTC Flyer.
Motorola brought two Android phones to Sprint at a special event Tuesday by unveiling two flagship phones for both Sprint itself and Virgin. The Photon 4G is Sprint's first international 4G hardware and will talk to GSM networks along with Sprint's CDMA, 3G, and 4G networks. The phone stands as Sprint's first dual-core Tegra 2 hardware and packs a 4.3-inch 540x960 screen along with both a rear eight-megapixel camera and a front VGA camera.
