Apple SEC filing shows huge bonus payouts
Apple on Friday sent filings to the SEC that showed one of the larger bonus payouts to its senior vice presidents in recent memory. iOS head Scott Forstall, Hardware Engineering's Bob Mansfield, CFO Peter Oppenheimer, Worldwide Product Marketing lead Phil Schiller, general legal counsel Bruce Sewell, and operations head Jeff Williams all received share awards of 150,000 shares each. At current market values of about $400 per share, each will have made $60 million if they cashed in the same day.

Mac App Store already main venue for software
During the course of today's WWDC 2011 keynote, Apple executives elaborated on a number of business milestones the company has achieved. The Mac App Store, for instance, is now claimed to be main channel for buying computer software, ahead of Best Buy, Walmart and Office Depot. The ranking does not reflect the actual popularity of Mac software versus Windows titles, the latter of which are often bought directly from publishers and developers, or through services like Steam.

Schiller claims white iPhone 4 is same size
Observations that the white iPhone 4 was thicker than the black model were given an unusual challenge on Sunday by Apple's VP of worldwide product marketing Phil Schiller. In a direct message to Ernesto Barron, he insisted that the white model was the same size despite hands-on tests. "Don't believe all the junk you read," Schiller said.

Schiller sidesteps question from customer
Apple's senior vice president of marketing, Phil Schiller, has reportedly sidestepped a question from a customer who sent an e-mail inquiry regarding the possibility of a keyboard dock dedicated to the iPad 2. According to an alleged exchange posted on 9to5Mac, the executive responded by highlighting the device's virtual keyboard and convenience of the Bluetooth accessory.

Apple and Google CEOs allegedly intervened
Google engineering VP Vic Gundotra and Apple marketing VP Phil Schiller came into intense conflict over Google Maps in 2008, according to sources cited by Bloomberg and 9to5Mac. A Bloomberg article remarks that as Android first became a threat to the iPhone, Apple began resisting Google claims to location data accumulated whenever an iPhone owner uses Google Maps. Negotiations became so hot, two sources say, that the CEOs of Apple and Google had to step in and resolve the situation.

Forstall seen as trumping Cook, Ive, Schiller
Financial publication Fast Company has published a new ranking of possible replacements for Apple CEO Steve Jobs. The magazine notes that even if Jobs does return from his current medical leave, the company will eventually have to find a replacement. The top potential candidate is argued to be Apple's senior VP of iPhone software, Scott Forstall. He is "young, possesses the right kind of technical knowledge and dynamism, and has become an increasingly important figure in key Apple product decisions," according to the magazine.

Apple VP made 'big deal' of incident
Apple's VP of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, once came into conflict with Google while visiting the latter's offices several years ago, a source claims. The executive is said to have been at the building for a meeting, and as he entered, he was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement common amongst Silicon Valley businesses. Schiller is then alleged to have made a "big deal" out of refusing, according to Silicon Alley Insider, insisting that he would either attend the meeting or sign the NDA, but not do both.

iTunes accounts at risk?
A purge of books has taken place at the App Store following accusations of illegal activity. Apple has removed dozens of titles belonging to "mycompany," really developer Thuat Nguyen, who in recent days came to virtually control the top paid books category. At one point 40 out of the 50 top books were attributed to Nguyen, despite the fact that they were mostly non-localized Japanese comics, submitted within a space of two days and likely violating copyright. Many of these were given Vietnamese names, and priced at $5 apiece.

Individuals claim tens of millions in profit
Several Apple executives have become even richer after a stock selloff on Thursday, Fortune reports. Over a million restricted Apple shares became fully vested on Wednesday, and the next morning, four executives sold most of them under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan. COO Tim Cook is noted to have profited most, having sold 300,000 shares at prices ranging from $226.90 to $230.70; the shares were originally worth $72.01 apiece. Cook's total haul is noted to have been $68.8 million, although $32 million was diverted to taxes.

Surge of 'very objectionable' apps, exec claims
The recent crackdown on "overtly sexual" iPhone apps is based on a rash of complaints from the public, says Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller. Defends Apple control of sales
Speaking in an interview, Phil Schiller -- Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing -- has responded to ongoing criticisms of the App Store approval process. A number of developers have complained that it may take weeks or months for an app to be approved. Even after such delays an app can still be rejected, sometimes for what may be considered arbitrary criteria.

Schiller claims upgrade may be too much hassle
Near-term Apple marketing plans will revolve around countering Windows 7, says the company's senior marketing VP, Phil Schiller. "It presents a very good opportunity for us," he explains, noting that many PCs are still equipped with Windows XP, and will thus require a more elaborate upgrade to carry over files to 7. This can include backing up essential files, reformatting, and/or reinstalling old applications. "Any user that reads all those steps is probably going to freak out," claims Schiller. "If you have to go through all that, why not just buy a Mac?"

Tchao back after 15 year hiatus
Apple has rehired a former employee, Michael Tchao, to serve as the vice president of product marketing after a 15 year hiatus, according to the New York Times. Spokesman Steve Dowling confirmed that Tchao will report to Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.

Piper, Kaufman on Jobs
Two major analysts are split on whether Steve Jobs will take the stage at next week's Apple publicity event. Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray suggests that he will, in a move that could serve as the "first public confirmation of Jobs' health since his return to the company." Munster notes that Jobs' last presentation for an Apple event was on October 14th of last year, when he helped to introduce the first unibody MacBooks.

Poor Schiller testimony
Apple's VP of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, was "wholly unprepared and unwilling to testify" during a deposition last week, say attorneys for Psystar. The company recently called a string of Apple executives to testify in its battle over installing Mac OS X on third-party computers. In a filed complaint, Schiller is alleged to have been uncooperative, unable to provide any information on the damages Apple claims to have suffered as a result of Mac cloning.

A group of Apple executives has begun to answer deposition in the company's ongoing legal dispute with Psystar, the latter party has revealed. People who have already addressed questions relating to Psystar's defense include John Wright, a senior software manager for Mac OS X, and Kevin van Vechten, a software engineering manager. Thursday saw questions directed towards Phil Schiller, Apple's senior VP for worldwide product marketing, and one of the company's most prominent public faces.

Apple's senior VP for worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, has taken the unusual step of personally responding to a blog post criticizing the App Store. The blogger, Steven Frank, became irate over Apple's rejection of Google Voice apps, calling it the "final straw" in a series of problems and deserving of a boycott. Apple needs to work on maintaining consistent rejection policies, according to Frank, and telling developers what can be done to gain approval.

Schiller to keynote WWDC
Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, will host the keynote speech at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, an announcement reveals. The speech is set to begin Monday, June 8th at 10AM PT in the Moscone Center, where Schiller will be joined by other, as-yet-unnamed Apple executives. Final Expo keynote: images
Apple VP Phil Schiller gave what could be the company's final Macworld Expoo keynote, announcing the 17-inch Unibody MacBook Pro as well as iWork '09 and iLife '09 software upgrades. The company also announced big changes in iTunes, including variable song pricing (due in March) as well as a move to a fully DRM-free catalog (by end of March). Apple has also posted a QuickTime stream of the MWSF keynote.
