As teased by the company last week, Asus has launched the updated version of its PadFone Infinity. The new version of the combined smartphone and dockable tablet system uses an improved quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM, instead of the 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 used in its predecessor, as well as a few other minor changes.
Asus is preparing to launch the latest incarnation of its dockable smartphone early next week, one which could have some slight internal upgrades compared to the original model. A video teasing a launch event for the new PadFone Infinity, advises that the company will be showing the combination smartphone and tablet dock in Taipei on September 17th.
Asus' PadFone has maintained a unique strategy in the mobile market, acknowledging that smartphones and tablets are now essentially powered by the same components. The PadFone infinity is the latest extension of the concept, pairing a high-end Android phone with a dock that converts the pair into a 10-inch tablet. We stopped by Asus' low-key meeting room at Mobile World Congress to see the Infinity in action.
