The Symbian Anna update for Nokia smartphones has gone live in the US for the C6-01, E7 and N8 smartphones. This was confirmed by Yvonne from Nokia via an e-mail to My Nokia Blog. The update, 025.007, brings with it a number of improvements, including a new interface that includes fresh icons and wallpapers.
TomTom executive committee member Taco Titulaer on Thursday rejected a rumor started by analyst group Mergermarket that it was selling off its map content division. The former Tele Atlas group would stay intact and wasn't on sale at all. Its navigation data was "core to [TomTom's] strategy and product offering," Titulaer told Reuters.
At Nokia World on Tuesday, the event's namesake announced that its Ovi Maps software has received a few significant updates. Users will have the chance to check in locations on social networks such as Facebook, RenRen and StudiVZ through text message or e-mail. Viewing checkins only needs a web browser, although any native app should also show the results.
Nokia has now brought out a white version of its high-end E72. The new handset is aimed at the more fashion-conscious also ships with a number of accessories, including the BH-216 Bluetooth headset and a jewerlry add-on. The device also ships with the latest firmware which brings Ovi Maps with free turn-by-turn GPS
Nokia on Tuesday announced it has made its walk and drive Ovi Maps available for free to owners of the E71 and E66 smartphones. Previously, the free navigation software was only available for the newer E72, N97 mini and X6 handsets. Users need to download the latest Ovi Maps application from Nokia.com/maps to their computers before installing it to their device using Ovi Suite.
Nokia has began shipping its 5800 Navigation Edition handset in the US, after introducing it earlier this summer. The touchscreen device includes lifetime voice-guided navigation information for all of North America and ships with a car mount kit. Ovi Maps provides the guidance and also offers navigation help for pedestrians.
