Newly-redesigned Apple Store renovations continue to roll out around the US and elsewhere, with Oklahoma City's Penn Square Apple Store -- originally the first Oklahoma Apple Store -- shut down as of April 18 so as to receive the upgrade, the centerpiece of which is a 37-foot television display, usually placed where the Genius Bar used to be. Genius service will still be available, but those staffers now mingle on the sales floor along with the rest of the staff. The redesign includes more "natural" elements such as plants and custom wooden cabinetry and tables.
In the aftermath of the devastating tornado that cut a path of destruction through Oklahoma City on Monday, wireless carrier AT&T announced that overage charges would be suspended for the area until June 30 as part of an effort to assist victims, many of whom lost everything. Due to high call volumes as friends and family check on their loved ones, the company said it would add additional resources to relieve cell congestion.
AT&T has bought $1.9 billion in 700 MHz B spectrum from Verizon Wireless, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. AT&T says that the licenses should cover over 42 million people in 18 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming. As a part of the deal, it will also get AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum in five of those markets.
