Briefly: three new reviews, holiday deals

November 7 - 4:40pm EST  Nova Media has announced it has dropped the prices of its wireless modem products by about 16 percent, as part of preparations for the 2008 holiday season. The modems offer users up to 7.2 Mbit per second download speeds, and include a full version of Launch2net, a internet connection wizard for global wireless cell tower connectivity. Nova Media's lineup of modems require Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or later to function. Native Instruments has launched a variety of Holiday Values promotions, offering users a "substantial" discount or extras with many of its audio plugins. iCON 401 modem works worldwide, includes launch2net

September 17 - 5:05pm EDT   Nova Media on Wednesday unveiled the iCON 401, a new wireless USB modem that boasts worldwide coverage, and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Megabits per second. The iCON 401 includes an integrated antenna, built into the swivel clip, but also includes a connector for external antennas as well. Nova Media also includes the launch2net connection software to provide connection settings for almost any wireless provider. The iCON 401 is currently available for €199 (~$280) [full story]

Phone Plugins brings quick-dial to Leopard

June 17 - 3:35pm EDT   Nova Media has released Phone Plugins, a utility that allows one-click dialing and text messaging from any application in Leopard. Users of OS X Tiger were able dial cellphones connected over Bluetooth, but Apple removed that feature in OS X 10.5. Nova claims the utility not only restores that lost functionality, but improves on it as well. The Berlin-based developer says the Phone Plugins include a Bluetooth wizard to connect cell phones in one step. Users can call or send a text message to any number within Address Book or other applications using the “services” menu. [full story]

Launch2net ready for new AT&T modems

February 14 - 11:05am EST   Nova Media today highlighted launch2net -- an application that handles setup as well as connections to the internet for PC card and ExpressCard modems -- on the heels of AT&T's new LaptopConnect modems. "If you need a bit more than just a connect/disconnect button, launch2net is the right software for you." said Jan Fuellemann of nova media. "launch2net offers advanced statistics, auto-connect, disconnect after a certain time or traffic spend online, a menu icon so the software does not have to be running to establish a connection and more." Launch2net offers worldwide 3G connectivity

February 4 - 5:40pm EST   Nova Media today unveiled Launch2net, an application designed to provide wireless data settings for over 400 networks in 157 countries. The software can use many Bluetooth, USB, PCMCIA, or ExpressCard connection methods to give mobile users internet access wherever they travel. Nova Media highlights the application for use with the MacBook Air, saying that it compliments the mobility of the device and the user's lifestyle. Launch2Net requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 Tiger or higher, while Leopard users are required to update to 10.5.1. Nova Media unveils 7.2Mbit mobile USB modem

January 9 - 5:50pm EST   Nova Media today unveiled a new USB modem for use on EDGE, GPRS, HSUPA and 3G UMTS compatible networks, allowing for up to 7.2Mbit per second. The GlobeSurfer ICON HSUPA functions on 850/1900/2100MHz HSUPA and UMTS networks, with 850/900/1800/1900Mhz functionality for EDGE and GPRS. Over 300 preset connections are included with Nova’s Launch2net software, and features instant connectivity on a Mac. Nova Media’s GlobeSurfer Icon HSUPA is currently shipping, and is available from the company’s website for approximately $450. [full story]
