Apple CEO Tim Cook has made a "generous personal financial investment" in Project One America, an LGBT rights effort run by the Human Rights Campaign, according to an announcement. Project One is concentrated on securing marriage and nondiscrimination rights for LGBT people in Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi. HRC says it's interested in "tearing down misperceptions, and providing concrete protections for those who need it most." The organization also lauds Cook for being the first openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company, calling it a "clear and powerful message" about it being acceptable to be gay.
Sprint has expanded its LTE 4G coverage to 28 more towns in the US, according an announcement. The new locations are spread out across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Washington, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Michigan, Louisiana, Texas, and Massachusetts. Most of them are relatively minor; some notable names include Branson, Missouri, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
One or more thieves broke into the Renaissance at Colony Park Apple Store in Ridgeland, Mississippi on Monday morning, reports say. The incident occurred sometime around 4:30AM, and resulted in at least 20 computers being stolen. Local police say that a car was spotted traveling at high speed on the roundabout on Highland Colony Parkway and Old Agency Road at 4AM, which prompted them to patrol nearby businesses. The theft was called in to station roughly 20 to 30 minutes later.
Samsung has announced that its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets will be distributed to many students attending The University of Southern Mississippi. The school's pilot program will include 1,000 tablets, each loaded with an education app, Blackboard Mobile Learn, that will provide access to course information, syllabi, textbooks, grades, schedules, and other content.
Apple has announced that two new retail stores will be opening on August 30th. The Renaissance at Colony Park location will open in Ridgeland, Mississippi, becoming the first Apple Store in its state. A second location, The Forum Shops, will open in Las Vegas, right on Las Vegas Boulevard. This will be the fourth Apple Store located in Nevada.
