Microsoft has unveiled a new compact adapter for wirelessly streaming video from a computer or device to a television. The Wireless Display Adapter can be used to share content from any Miracast-enabled device, allowing for a television to be used as a secondary monitor or as a larger display for presentations and watching videos.
MMD, the technology company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, announced today the new 239C4QHWAB 23-inch Philips Miracast display with connectivity based on the Miracast standard, enabling users to stream mobile content wirelessly from Android devices and other compatible hardware. The new monitor is a 16:9 device at 1920x1080 resolution, and has support for 16.7 million colors, at a brightness of 250 cd/m2. Internal 3W speakers provide audio.
LG has revealed more details about its range of televisions for 2013, ahead of CES. Adding to the announcement of Google TV-enabled screens the company has already shown, it has also opted to give more information on features the HDTVs will have, including NFC, Miracast, WiDi, and a new recommendation function.
A new industry standard for video streaming is set to directly compete with Apple's AirPlay for dominance of the TV. Industry standards group the Wi-Fi Alliance has started a certification program for the Miracast standard, which will allow compatible devices to display video, images and applications instantly, regardless of brand.
