Company deserate to unload original Surface tablets ahead of second-gen revamp

Microsoft, which recently announced a trade-in program for users who want to exchange their working iPads for a Microsoft Surface tablet, is said to be planning to expand the program to iPhones as it seeks customers willing to buy the unpopular first-generation Surface even as the company prepares the already-announced Surface 2 line to head to retail. The expanded program, said to begin on Friday, will accept iPhone 4S or 5 units and reward traders with a $200 Microsoft store gift card, which can be used for other MS products and accessories, such as an Xbox.

Acer Iconia Tablet cut to $300

This week, OfficeDepot.com has the Acer Iconia 8.1-inch Windows 8 Tablet for the reduced price of $300, a savings of $80 off the original price. That makes this the lowest price we have seen on this tablet by about $60. Free delivery is available, but sales tax applies for residents of most states. The Acer Iconia Tablet features a 1.5GHz Intel Atom processor, 32GB of Solid State storage, an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator and a variety of connectivity options including micro-USB and microHDMI. A one-year limited warranty is included from Acer.
