Cloud-based DVR service roll-out to invite users initially
Live TV streaming service Aereo is going to expand its service to Boston, Massachusetts. Over 4.5 million people in the Boston metropolitan area will be able to use Aereo, which includes a cloud-based DVR as part of the service, and will be the second city that Aereo will operate in, after its initial launch in New York City.

$65,000 to cover tablets, projectors
The Boston Globe has announced plans to use iPads as part of its Newspaper in Education program. A pilot initiative will see $65,000 in vacation donation funds from Globe subscribers pay for 75 iPads, plus projectors. 50 tablets will go to Boston Public Schools, while the remaining 25 will be assigned to Stoneham High School.

Expansion mostly limited to minor towns
Sprint has expanded its LTE 4G coverage to 28 more towns in the US, according an announcement. The new locations are spread out across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Washington, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Michigan, Louisiana, Texas, and Massachusetts. Most of them are relatively minor; some notable names include Branson, Missouri, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Additional rollout in GA, NH, NY
Verizon has expanded the list of cities that will be included in a mid-December LTE network rollout across several regions. Additional locations in the Northeast will include Dover, Deleware; Greater Manchester and Nashua, New Hampshire; Fitchburg, Leominster, Lunenburg and Townsend, Massachusetts; and Clintondale, Fishkill, Hyde Park, Kingston, New Paltz, Platekill, Poughkeepsie, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Saugerties and Wappingers Falls, New York.

Current tax scheme may be hurting key services
A Democrat from Massachusetts, Rep. Bill Delahunt, has proposed new legislation that would remove the protections online retailers have enjoyed in terms of state sales taxes. At present, people buying from an out-of-state website are not required to pay the sales taxes that would normally be owed at a retail shop. The US Supreme Court has ruled that without new law, out-of-state retailers cannot be made to collect sales tax.

Notebooks also available through leasing program
A new program in Beverly, Massachusetts aims to outfit every high-school student with a new MacBook. Although such technology programs are not uncommon, Beverly High School is asking parents to foot the bill upfront or through a leasing program with an option to buy the device after three years. Monthly cost is said to range from $20 to $25, with financial assistance available for eligible families.

Banner replaced without warning
The latest incarnation of a controversial Boston iPod ad has been pulled from the building on which it hung, says the Boston Herald. Measuring some 13,750 square feet, a 2007 banner was larger than normally allowed, and deemed illegal by the state's Outdoor Advertising Board. One or more versions have nevertheless remained in place well through 2009; in June the responsible companies secured a permit after paying a $110,000 penalty.

Allegations of corruption by business
Giant banner ads for iPods have created political controversy in Boston, writes the Boston Globe. The ads are said to have first arrived in the fall of 2007, a few months before the opening of the city's flagship Apple Store. Covering a wall measuring 13,750 square feet, the banners immediately drew fire from the Outdoor Advertising Board, which called them illegal. They have nevertheless remained in place, though in June of this year the companies behind the ads were required to pay the state $110,000 and request a new permit from the city's government. The permit was approved within the same week by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

Frisco, Dedham stores soon
Apple has formally announced two new retail store openings, with a third believed to be coming soon. The first opening will take place at 10AM Eastern on August 29th, in Dedham, Massachusetts. Known as Apple Store Legacy Place, the shop is situated at 950 Providence Highway, near an intersection with Elm Street. No details on store hours have been provided.

The area surrounding Boston, Massachusetts will soon gain another Apple Store, reports indicate. The new outlet is set to open in the town of Dedham, just southwest of Boston. It should be located within the Legacy Place mall, which is being built alongside Interstate 95 but will generally target richer customers with attractions such as L.L. Bean and Whole Foods, as well as office space and a movie theater.
