Interface streamlined, overhauled
Apple has launched Logic Pro X, a long-delayed upgrade of the company's digital audio workstation software. X represents a major revision, adding several new features. Among these is Drummer, which can automatically supply a drumbeat for a song using different styles and techniques. Flex Pitch is a form of autotuning, letting users fix or manipulate not only vocals but also any note within a waveform.
Boxed Logic suites to be discontinued
(Updated with live Mac App Store links) Apple is notifying resellers that Logic Studio and Logic Express are no longer being offered in boxed copies, reports say. Instead, Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 will at some point migrate to the Mac App Store, though when and at what price is unmentioned. The fate of Soundtrack Pro 3 is also uncertain, but is not cited as joining its companion apps.
Logic suites largely ignored in modern era
Apple has posted an update for MainStage, the live performance component of Logic Studio. Version 2.1.3 is a relatively minor update, improving "overall stability" as well as fixing a handful of specific errors. These include bad display of Audio Unit plugin presets, and MIDI input being forced to channel 1. Perhaps the most critical fix deals with a bug that caused MainStage to quit when using Undo after deleting a patch.
