Microsoft is still working on allowing owners of lower-specification Windows Phone devices to use Windows 10. Concerns that owners of smartphones including the Lumia 520 would miss out were allayed by a Microsoft executive, though it appears that they may miss out on some of the functionality expected to arrive within the mobile operating system.
Microsoft is offering a budget Nokia smartphone and anXbox Music Pass subscription from the Microsoft Store for $99, for a limited time. The offer, available in the United States and Puerto Rico, consists of a 12-month subscription to the music service, along with the choice of either a Lumia 520 on AT&T or a Lumia 521 on T-Mobile, as off-contract devices.
Low-end Lumia devices are among the best selling in the entire Windows Phone lineup, according to new figures from AdDuplex. PhoneArena on Saturday pointed to new figures from the industry analysis firm showing that the Lumia 520 and Lumia 521 account for 30 percent of the Windows Phone devices in use around the world. In the United States, the Lumia 520 has usurped the Lumia 920 as the second-most used Windows Phone handset, and the 520 and 521 account for more than 30 percent of the U.S. Windows Phone market.
Nokia has launched its rumored successor to the Lumia 520, its popular Windows Phone smartphone. The Lumia 525 is relatively unchanged from the Lumia 520 for the most part, with it sharing a similar design and internals, though the original's 512MB of RAM has been upgraded to 1GB, which will certainly help performance in apps.
