Microsoft has announced the opening of additional invitations to participate in the beta testing and preview of its Live Mesh client for Mac. The technology takes advantage of the company's cloud computing architecture, using it to push sync information to devices, but by storing and routing the data through a Microsoft cloud server. Users can upload files, folders, and even certain applications to the mesh, with controls over private or public access. [full story]

Microsoft is in the middle of developing a Mac port of its Live Mesh sync technology, the company has announced. The technology is similar in concept to Apple's MobileMe, but focuses on syncing files, instead of calendars and contacts, with a remote Microsoft cloud server; this is done simply by selecting "Add to My Mesh" from a right-click menu, which uploads a file to Live Desktop and pushes it to other linked devices. Files can be shared between Macs, PCs and Windows Mobile phones, but not with iPhones. [full story]

Microsoft today unveiled what it says is a solution to keeping information in sync across not just multiple computers, but handhelds as well. Live Mesh is a platform similar to but expanded on Apple's .Mac that creates both a 5GB personal storage space and also tracks all the associated devices. Users can upload files, folders, and sometimes programs to their Mesh either as shared or private content that can be swapped between devices; actions performed in the Mesh are in turn pushed as news items that can be shared with others.
