Will focus on enterprise services, data manipulation
Lexmark is exiting the inkjet printer business and will be refocusing its efforts to improve profitability. As PCWorld details, the printer company is leaving the consumer sector to focus on more profitable endeavors, including higher-margin products like multifunction printers, managed print services, and software. As a result, the company will be cutting 1,700 jobs in total, including 1,100 in manufacturing.

Brings Logic Express up to par with Pro
Apple on late Tuesday released a trio of software updates. Among these is Logic Express 9.1.6, a patch for the company's mid-range audio editor. The code brings Express up to par with Logic Pro, which recently migrated to the Mac App Store. Numerous compatibility, performance, control, and instrumentation problems have been fixed. The update measures 140.58MB, and requires OS X 10.6.8 or later.

Lexmark Genesis printer has camera, upright design
Lexmark today sought to shake up the normally very conservative world of printers by introducing the Genesis. The design is unusual just by standing upright but is more unique still by using a 10-megapixel camera for scanning. It can capture the entire frame almost instantly and can convert the scan to a full image in as little as three seconds.

Lexmark's low cost AIO printer tested
Lexmark has suffered from somewhat of a perceived quality issue in the marketplace over the past few years. The S605, however, promises to do everything: it's a photo quality 3-in-1 printer with a long list of added features included. We hope to learn in the full review if this all-in-one can repair Lexmark’s sullen image.

New offerings for Canon, Brother, HP, Lexmark
Apple on Monday released a wide range of new printer drivers for Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The drivers add compatibility for many printers and scanners manufactured by Canon, Brother, HP and Lexmark. Users with devices not supported by the drivers included on the original v10.6 installation DVD can use Software Update to automatically check for new drivers after the printer or scanner is connected to the Mac.

Lexmark shows first touchscreen laser printer
Lexmark on Tuesday introduced what it's calling the industry's first monochrome laser printer equipped with a touchscreen, the T656dne. Thanks to the 7-inch color LCD, users can access applications such as forms and favorites or eco-settings to save energy. The interface also provides a variety of settings, such as languages, along with controls for changing the background into, for example, a company logo. The printer has a built-in 80GB hard drive that is able to support preloaded software applications.

Lexmark on Tuesday introduced eight new all-in-one inkjet printers geared for small- to medium-size business. The Platinum Pro905 features a 4.3-inch touchscreen and a customizable interface for quicker access to frequent tasks. Users can also view web content from the display, such as news, weather, or photo sharing sites.

Lexmark myTouch printers
Lexmark has announced a new line of inkjet printers, with eight all-in-one devices to be released on September 1. The printers each integrate 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreens for "as needed" navigation. Graphical icons provide quick access to basic print, copy and scan functions. The printers also utilize Lexmark's new Vizix print technology, featuring separate ink tanks to improve printing speed and printing precision. The line boasts Wireless-N connectivity for customers needing a longer range and faster file-transfer rates.

Lexmark intros printers
Lexmark on Monday introduced new series of monochrome and color laser printers as well as color laser multifunction products (MFPs), meant for businesses of all sizes. The C540 series of color laser printers and X540 of color laser MFPs are capable of double-sided printing, low power consumption and ability to print on recycled paper, in addition to having 802.11n wireless connectivity modules built-in. At the same time, the company introduced a comprehensive line of 11 monochrome laser X650 series MFPs and nine T650 series monochrome laser printers. Meant for departmental office use, the monochrome products can perform finishing tasks such as stapling and mailbox options.

Lexmark Fall 2008 AIOs
Lexmark on Monday geared up for the return to work by launching three new printer models each for the Home & Student and Small Office Pro series. For home users, the X4950 (pictured) serves as the flagship with built-in 802.11g Wi-Fi to share the printer over the local network; it also has a 2.4-inch OLED display for menus and previews, copies and scans at a native 4800x1200 resolution, and outputs pages at either 30 per minute in monochrome or 27 in full color. It will sell for $150 and ship along with the other printers in September.

Lexmark wireless inkjets
Lexmark today unveiled a new line of low-cost inkjet printers geared towards home users that feature built-in wireless printing. The lineup consists of three models so far: the Z2420 wireless printer, X3650 multi-function, and X4650 wireless multi-function. The two wireless versions communicate with 802.11b/g, and are compatible with the current 802.11n draft version. Lexmark will ship the three models starting later this month, with additional versions to follow later this year, ranging from $80 to $130.
