Amazon cuts Kindle, Paperwhite price by $10 in Canada

Amazon has dropped the price for some of its Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite e-readers in Canada. The standard Kindle has dropped from $89 to $79, while the Paperwhite version, with its lighter screen and built-in light, sells for $129 instead of $139. The 3G-enabled version of the Kindle Paperwhite remains at $199.

Whispersync for Voice, Time-to-Read reaches discontinued ereader

Amazon has released a firmware update for the Kindle Touch e-reader, effectively turning it into a Kindle Paperwhite, the device's successor. Update 5.3.2 includes a number of changes and features to the onboard software, including a new user interface, enhanced parental controls, and the ability to navigate graphic novels and comics.

Kindle hardware sold at cost, so Amazon breaks even

E-retail giant Amazon makes no profit on the sales of its Kindle Fire HD tablet or its Kindle Paperwhite e-reader. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos confirmed this in an interview with the BBC today, making a point to highlight the differences between Amazon's device strategy and that of tablet market leader Apple, as well as most manufacturers of Android-powered tablets. The company's sales strategy for its hardware is in keeping with Bezos' goal, stated when Amazon unveiled the new devices, that Amazon wants to make money when people use their devices, not when they buy them.

Amazon reveals new Kindle Paperwhite

New e-reader sports high-resolution screen

At a press event in Los Angeles today, online retail giant Amazon unveiled the newest version of its Kindle e-reader, the Kindle paperwhite. In addition to the previously rumored backlight and high-resolution screen, the new e-reader sports a few other features that weren't mentioned in leaks leading up to its release. The new device is said to feature 62 percent more pixels in its screen, and Amazon touts the technology behind the backlit display as producing light in as even a pattern as one would see with ambient light.
