Recently-appointed Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is said to have pushed up the development of Yahoo's IntoNow app to get the product out ahead of schedule. The move came as Yahoo fights slumping revenues and attempts to right itself and leverage its user base toward greater profits. As Advertising Age reports, the IntoNow decision was aimed at taking advantage of the product's capabilities during the Olympics, is one of the major early decisions on Mayer's part; and some observers believe it indicates that Yahoo's future will be more product-focused than ever before.
Software giant Microsoft has purchased VideoSurf, a company that developed a way to search for video clips online. The deal is believed to be worth tens of millions of dollars, though the exact number isn't revealed. VideoSurf did raise $28 million from former US President Al Gore, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Verizon Investment Fund, Pitango Venture Capital, Orbotech, founder Hanan Gilutz, and SurveyMonkey CEO David Goldberg.
Yahoo has just completed a deal to purchase relative software newcomer IntoNow for between $20 and $30 million, TechCrunch reported on Monday. The company has been around for just 12 weeks and was said to also be considered for purchase by Twitter and Facebook. The company's sole product so far is an app for Apple's iPhone devices that will listen to the TV program users are watching, identify it, and share the update with other users.
