Last November, the Internet Archive debuted their new service, The Internet Arcade, where over 900 arcade titles from the 1980's and 90's were hosted for free play over a web browser. Today the service topped itself, expanding the the Software Library to include 2,300 MS-DOS-era games, available through the EM-DOSbox in-browser emulator.
A fire at a building owned by the Internet Archive, the non-profit behind the Wayback Machine, has caused an estimated $600,000 of damage. The organization's scanning center in San Francisco caught fire at 3:30am, and while no-one was hurt nor any data lost by the incident, the building and equipment used for scanning and digitization were all damaged.
An optional web censoring filter used by T-Mobile's US division, Web Guard has been found stretching too far in a new study by the Open Observatory of Network Interference. As implemented so far, it not only blocks the intended 'adult' sites but a number of clean sites, such as Cosmopolitan magazine, the Internet Archive, French TV guide Programme, and many others that have no reason to be blocked. In a degree of irony, it blocks the page for the censorship circumvention of the Tor Project, religious site Kath, and a redirect page that results from Italy's own national filter.
