A contributor posting details to the Android Central forums has given a rare glimpse of the AT&T version of the HTC One X. While his impressions of the LTE-aware version's light weight and good build quality match what we tried ourselves (linked above), he added that the battery life for the Android 4.0 flagship was "really good" compared to most LTE phones to date. The longevity was likely owed to the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip inside, which builds LTE directly into its core and is much more power-efficient.
Owners unhappy with the selection of hardware in HTC's bootloader unlocking program have developed their own unofficial solution. HTC Super Tool on the XDA-Developers forums both unlocks the bootloader and roots devices whether or not they're part of HTC's plans. Along with the Evo and Sensation models, it also unlocks the T-Mobile G2, Inspire 4G, and multiple myTouch models.
AT&T's annual Black Friday weekend sale [updated Friday] will see it once again try to aggressively move Windows Phone hardware. On November 26, the company plans to sell "all" Windows Phone 7 devices for one cent on a contract. The discounting includes brand-new phones like the Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash as well as the HTC Titan, which is just reaching the carrier the same day.
During the last quarter in the US market, about 22 percent of all smartphones sold supported 4G networks, the NPD Group found. This is a huge jump from last year's quarter, which saw only three percent of all smartphones be 4G capable. The growth is no doubt due to the added number of available 4G services and devices, such as Verizon's LTE network.
A new document in an FCC filing has revealed that the HTC Inspire 4G from AT&T will get the ability to access AT&T's HSUPA network through a software update. This is in line with earlier reports that had the handset's 4G radio disabled on purpose. There is a gap between when HTC submitted its Class II Change letter to the FCC on March 8 and when the FCC sent back Test Reports to HTC on March 23, partially explaining the delay.
