Global home furnishings retailer Ikea today announced a product launch of powered bedside tables, lamps, and desks that implement a wireless charging standard. Ikea has adopted the Qi standard, and will sell cases in-store that use the standard for phones that do not have the technology integrated, like the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S5.
Canon is working on a new addition to the PowerShot compact camera range, one which may end up with a similar one-inch sensor to its recently-launched G7 X. A press release spotted by Ubergizmo mentions a camera which "combines the merits of both a large image sensor and a high-magnification optical zoom lens," packed into a "compact body." The release does not hint at when Canon will unveil the device.
Furniture retailer Ikea is to sell only LED-based energy-saving lighting by 2016. The switch away from incandescent bulbs and halogen lights to LED lighting will make it the first US home furnishing retailer to do so, and will start the move to the greener light sources by replacing over a million in-store lights with the LED bulbs.
Swedish assembly-required furniture maker Ikea has now gotten into electronics with the Uppleva, which translates to Experience. The design is a home theater system with the HDTV, Blu-ray player/audio receiver, and sound system integrated into a stand that can be customized to a buyer's taste. The electronics come from China's TCL Multimedia, though specs are thin.
A Democrat from Massachusetts, Rep. Bill Delahunt, has proposed new legislation that would remove the protections online retailers have enjoyed in terms of state sales taxes. At present, people buying from an out-of-state website are not required to pay the sales taxes that would normally be owed at a retail shop. The US Supreme Court has ruled that without new law, out-of-state retailers cannot be made to collect sales tax.

Apple want ads hint at future Watch faces
An Apple job listing for a dedicated clock face team may suggest future fashion-brand partnerships, possibly in time for the updated watchOS updates that are likely to be revealed at this spring's Worldwide Developer Conference. Since the introduction of watchOS 2, there has only been four new watch faces, but three of them were left over from the first release, with only one truly new one -- the co-branded Hermés face exclusive to that edition. There is a rumored March 15 event, but if that takes place it will likely focus on new band options as regards the Apple Watch. http://apple.co/1O1TbTI
