Music hardware and software developer IK Multimedia today announced the iRig Mic Studio, its ultra-portable large-diaphragm digital condenser microphone for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC and Android. The iRig Mic Studio packs a one-inch diameter condenser capsule into an ultra-compact enclosure that can be used to make professional recordings anywhere.
Samsung Professional Audio required for Android version of iRig
IK Multimedia has made a version of its iOS-based iRig HD for Android Devices, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 being the first compatible device. The iRig HD-A digital guitar interface is also accompanied by an Android version of the AmpliTube app, the guitar processing app, which will also only work with Samsung mobile devices.
Field recording through Lightning devices, stand gives tablet users positioning options
Two new products are coming from IK Multimedia, as the company announced the iRig Mic Field and iKlip Xpand Stand. The iRig Mic Field offers high-quality stereo recording through Lightning-compatible devices for projects that need a separate audio recording, like live bands or films. The new iKlip Xpand Stand offers tablet users a way to mount their tablets, giving them the flexibility to use them in a freestanding manner without bulky hardware or permanently attached fixtures.
E-on Software releases free Ozone 2014 Personal Learning Edition
E-on Software has announced the release of its Ozone 2014 Personal Learning Edition, a sun and atmospheric lighting simulator. The software produces ultra-realistic environments with volumetric clouds, accurate light dispersion, and natural phenomena such as "Godrays." Users can create new atmospheres, and load any of the included presets and modify them.
IK Multimedia launches portable Lightning/USB iRig MIDI 2
IK Multimedia has announced that it is now shipping the iRig MIDI 2, a portable MIDI interface with Lightning and USB connectivity for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as Mac and PC. The device is equipped with three standard-sized female MIDI DIN sockets -- IN, OUT and THRU -- which allow for full MIDI functionality and connectivity with any MIDI-enabled device, such as a keyboard, hardware synthesizer and more. Its two blue LED lights provide monitoring of the MIDI data passing through the In and Out sockets.
Kitsound launches new portable speaker small enough to clip onto a backpack
KitSound has introduced a new portable speaker that is geared towards use during outdoor activities, the Cadet. Clad in a tough rubber-coated metal housing, the Cadet can stream music from a Bluetooth-enabled device from up to 10 meters away, playing while clipped to a backpack. The round speaker is also equipped with a microSD card slot, USB port and connectivity for a 3.5mm auxiliary cable. Able to play for up to eight hours, the Cadet is priced at $70 and can be purchased online.
GrooveMaker 2 released by IK Multimedia
IK Multimedia has announced the release of its mobile loop based music-making app, GrooveMaker 2. Designed for iPad, the app offers users the ability to create professional quality grooves, beats and songs in real time. Its library features over 3,600 available loops and over 60 collections of music genres, including House, DubStep, Hip Hop, Techno, Reggae and more. GrooveMaker 2 can be utilized as a live DJ performance tool as well as a mobile composition app. Users can set the length of individual loops and grooves down to 1/4 of a bar, providing flexibility when building and layering a track.

iLine cables set to launch in February
IK Multimedia has made several new announcements regarding its line of mobile audio products at CES 2013. Most importantly, the company is expanding into the Android market though the introduction of iRig Recorder for Android. The $5 app will be available on the Google Play Store at the end of the month and will allow users to record audio using the device's built in mic, or any of IK Multimedia's 3.5mm recording devices. This includes the iRig Mic, iRig Mic Cast, iRig Pre, and the portable DJ mixer iRig Mix. A free version of iRig Recorder will also be offered, providing the same recording, level-optimization and export features as the full version, but limiting editing and processing features.
Amplitube Slash gives wannabe guitar heroes some hope
Earlier this week, IK Multimedia announced the release of its latest app for the iPad and iPhone, Amplitube Slash $10, iTunes. The app aims to offer guitarists who are fans of the famous ex-Guns n’ Roses guitar legend the opportunity to play and record using simulated versions of Slash’s signature amps and stomp boxes. IK Multimedia targets music pros with iOS gear
IK Multimedia used the run-up to the NAMM show to unveil a pair of accessories targeted just at iOS users wanting to make professional music. The iRig PRE takes an XLR microphone input and pre-amps it with a typical 3.5mm headphone jack to give live monitoring. The add-on has its own 9V battery and can produce as much as +48V of phantom power for condenser mics, running as long as 15 hours (40 hours on dynamic microphones) without needing a wall plug or sapping the iOS device's battery.
Amp and stompbox emulation for mobile devices
IK Multimedia has launched its Amplitube Fender app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new app emulates a number of classic Fender amp and stomp box tones and was designed in conjunction with the tone gurus at Fender. Like the original Amplitube app, it works in conjunction with the iRig interface adapter. The six included Fender stomps include Fender Phaser, Fender Blender, Tape Delay, Overdrive, Compressor (by registering) and Noise Filter. It also includes five amps with matching cabinets including the ’65 Deluxe reverb, ’65 Twin reverb, ’59 Bassman LTD, Super-Sonic, and Pro Junior.
IK ships StealthPedal
IK Multimedia has begun shipping its StealthPedal device that combines a MIDI controller with a USB interface. The wah-style pedal is designed for guitarists and bassists, either for live performances or studio recording. Users connect their instrument to the device, which then provides control over software parameters. Both balanced and unbalanced audio inputs are available, along with a low-noise input stage and 24-bit A/D or D/A conversion.
AmpliTube updates released
IK Multimedia has released two software updates, AmpliTube Fender 1.0.1 and AmpliTube X-Gear 1.3.1. AmpliTube Fender offers a selection of 45 classic and modern Fender guitar and bass amps, cabinets, stompboxes, and rack effects. Amplitube X-Gear allows users to customize their own guitar sounds, with access to 195 amps and effects from all current AmpliTube software. Both programs have fixed small glitches, such as pedal displays and reverb values, along with memory and CPU optimizations.
"Total Workstation" audio
IK Multimedia and Muse Research have joined forces to create what they claim is one of the most powerful music sound modules ever made. The Total WorkStation Rack uses Muse Research’s Receptor hardware plug-in player with IK’s SampleTank 2.5, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleMoog and Sampleton virtual instruments. The product also ships with more than 10,000 sample-based sounds from every instrument category.
IK Multimedia has announced the release of SampleTron, the second virtual instrument to be released from the Sonik Instruments range. SampleTron is a virtual instrument workstation featuring the a complete collection of authentic 'Tron' and other vintage keyboards instrument samples. We have posted a review of the Logic3 JiveBox. This all-in-one cube houses a 2.1 speaker system that delivers a surprising amount of volume for such a compact system. The JiveBox comes complete with IR remote, 3.5mm line in cable, AC adapter, and an assortment of docking cradle plates to fit various iPod sizes new and old. The focal point of the JiveBox is the 7-inch glossy black block that encases all of the speakers and neatly hides the cables underneath the unit. A changeable glowing LED light strip that can be changed to red, blue, or green complements its simple design.
IK ships StompIO
After numerous delays, IK Multimedia has at last begun shipping the StompIO, a combination USB floor controller and audio interface for guitars. The unit is designed to mimic traditional floor controllers, and once set up, can thus be used without touching a computer. The unit specifically functions with IK's AmpliTube-based software, which lets users replicate numerous amps, mics, stomps, cabinets and rack effects on the fly.
IK offers free plugins
IK Multimedia recently announced that users of its Pro Tools plugin AmpliTube LE are now eligible to receive a free upgrade to AmpliTube 2 Duo, as well as a copy of Ampeg SVX Uno. The company says these offerings are part of a customer appreciation promotion due to the plugin’s worldwide popularity, and is even available to customers who bought the combined Digibundle package. AmpliTube emulates four components in a typical electric guitarist’s setup: a tuner, stomp, amp, and cabinet plus microphone. AmpliTube also comes with several different models of each module, with 30 preset sounds and 16 amp combinations. New users can purchase AmpliTube 2 Duo for $400, and is available through its website and major authorized retailers.
