Asus router claimed to have fastest Wi-FI connection
Asus has unveiled what it claims to be a wireless router with the "world's fastest Wi-Fi" connection at Germany's IFA show this morning. The RT-AC5300 takes its cue from the RT-AC3200 in using a large number of antennas, with this router using a total of eight detachable dual-band along all four main edges of the device to help it achieve speeds of up to 5.3Gbps over Wi-Fi, using both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands.
LTE-equipped Cat S50 has 4.7-inch 720p display, curated app store
Cat, a brand better known for the heavy-duty industrial equipment, has unveiled another smartphone just three months after the Cat B15Q was launched. The Cat S50 is a ruggedized Android KitKat device fitted with a 4.7-inch 1280x720 display protected with Gorilla Glass 3, with the IP67-certified LTE device able to survive against dust, submergence, and the occasional impact.
IFA Alcatel OneTouch launches powered by octa-core processors
Alcatel OneTouch has increased its Hero device range by two at IFA, with a smartphone and a tablet joining the roster. The Hero 2 Android smartphone is powered by an octa-core 2GHz processor behind a 6-inch 1080p display, while the Hero 8 is a tablet with an eight-inch 1920x1200 screen, also backed by a MediaTek octa-core processor.
Second Huawei IFA smartphone launch shows Ascend G7 with metal body
Huawei's second smartphone launch at its IFA event is a more modest device in comparison to the Ascend Mate 7. The Ascend G7 is an LTE-equipped smartphone with a 5.5-inch 1280x720 display, and though it has specifications making it a mid-ranged device, Huawei has attempted to make it more attractive by using a metal body with relatively few plastic sections.

Huawei has updated the Ascend Mate smartphone line, with the release of the Ascend Mate 7. The phablet, announced at IFA today, has a six-inch 1080p display packed into its 185g (6.5 ounces), 7.9mm-thick (0.31 inches) aluminum body, giving the smartphone a pixel density of 367ppi and extremely thin bezels on either side of the screen.
Lenovo Vibe Z2, Vibe X2 have high-resolution front cameras
Lenovo has extended its Vibe smartphone line with two new Android devices at the company's IFA media event today. The Vibe X2 has a unique multi-layered case design and packs a MediaTek True8Core processor, while the Vibe Z2 is the company's first 64-bit smartphone with a thin 7.8mm (0.3 inches) brushed metal unibody case.
Lumia Selfie app preinstalled on Lumia 730, Lumia 735
Aside from the Lumia 830, Microsoft revealed two other Nokia-branded Lumia devices at IFA. The Lumia 735 and the Lumia 730 Dual SIM differ in terms of the number of SIM cards they each hold, but are effectively the same smartphone, with both using the same 4.7-inch 1,280x720 OLED display and quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor.

Part of a launch of three smartphones at its IFA event, Microsoft revealed the Lumia 830. Offering a 5.5-inch 1280x720 display, the Windows Phone device is billed by the company as an "affordable flagship," with the aluminum-framed smartphone packing a rear 10-megapixel PureView camera aided with various camera app functions in the accompanying Lumia Denim software update.
Sony Action Cam Mini lighter than earlier models, connects to Ustream
Sony's latest camera designed for sports and action videography has been launched, claimed to be the company's smallest version yet. The splash-proof Action Cam Mini weighs just 63 grams (2.2 ounces) and is two thirds the size of earlier models, with Sony also introducing the ability to stream video live via Ustream and other services at the same time as recording footage to a memory card.
Sony QX1 has 20.1-megapixel APS-C sensor, can take E-Mount lenses
Sony surprisingly launched two "lens-style" cameras at IFA, rather than the single device was originally rumored. The QX30 is similar to the original QX10 and QX100 launched one year ago, but adds a 30x zoom, while the QX1 allows users to attach any E-Mount lenses they already own, giving the photographer more customization options.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Edge launch at Unpacked event
Samsung's Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event at IFA has concluded, and has seen the launch of multiple devices from the company. The expected Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is joined by the Galaxy Edge, a previously-rumored smartphone which adds a small display over the side of the device. While Samsung has already revealed the Gear S smartwatch, it has also formally unveiled its Gear VR virtual reality headset which pairs with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
Galaxy Note 4 has Octa-core processor option for some markets
Samsung's expected reveal of the Galaxy Note at its Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event at IFA has confirmed earlier rumors of its high-resolution display. The phablet's 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display equals the size of its predecessor, but Samsung has boosted the resolution to Quad HD, 2,560x1,440, with a claimed 90-percent Adobe RGB color gamut and Gorilla Glass protection.
Two models of Toshiba Chromebook 2 shipping in US from October
Toshiba's second iteration of the Chromebook adds quite a few improvements compared to the original, including a choice of 13.3-inch displays. The Chromebook 2 will be available with a similar 1366x768 monitor to the first version, though a second option involves a 1920x1080 IPS display as well as doubling the amount of memory.
Toshiba Encore Mini includes Office 365 Personal, entry-level specifications
Toshiba has introduced two devices running Windows 8.1 at IFA, adding to its existing Radius and Encore ranges. The Satellite Radius 11 is a convertible notebook able to switch between tablet and notebook modes, while the Encore Mini is a 7-inch tablet offering full Windows 8.1 with Bing and Microsoft Office 365 Personal preinstalled.
Y70 Touch gaming notebook has 1080p 17-inch touchscreen
Alongside the Tab S8, Lenovo launched two computers aimed at gamers at IFA. The Y70 Touch gaming notebook packs a 17.3-inch 1920x1080 display with touch controls, while the Erazer X315 is a desktop gaming PC claimed to be an affordable system shipping with a choice of a quad-core 3.1GHz AMD Kaveri A8 or quad-core 37GHz Kaveri A10 processor.
Intel Atom processor used in Lenovo Tab S8 with Burst Performance Technology
Lenovo kicked off its IFA device launches, by revealing its first Intel-powered Android tablet. The Lenovo Tab S8 uses a quad-core Intel Atom Z3745 with 2GB of RAM, with the processor's Burst Performance Technology said to help provide more processing power when it is required, in turn saving on battery life when performing lower-impact tasks.
Pre-IFA event could see unveiling of Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha
Samsung is planning to launch new devices in early September, according to an invitation sent to members of the media. An Unpacked event is set to take place on September 3rd in Berlin, two days before the IFA tradeshow is set to take place, and based on items launched at previous Unpacked events at this time of year, it may be the launch venue for the Galaxy Note 4.
All-in-one with 21:9 aspect ratio to be shown alongside three similar monitors
LG will be showing off a new all-in-one computer with an UltraWide screen at IFA 2013 in September, alongside three cinematic monitors it launched earlier this month. The V960 offers the same 29-inch IPS display with an aspect ratio of 21:9 as the 29EA73, 29EB73, and 29MA73 monitors, but this time includes a built-in Windows 8 PC.
Quad-core tablets form bulk of launches, smart watch teased
Archos has revealed what mobile devices it will be showing at IFA in Germany next week. A number of smartphones and tablets running on Android will be on display, including changes to its mobile phone line-up, and the company also teases a range of "Connected Objects," along with its own take on the smart watch concept.
LG vac bot streams video in real time over wifi
LG has announced its latest robot vacuum cleaner, the VR6180VMNC Roboking Triple Eye. The Roboking Triple Eye is an upgraded version of the LG Hom-Bot, which debuted at the CES show in January. In addition to the sensors used to guide the vacuum automatically as it cleans, the Roboking Triple Eye also has three video cameras capable of streaming in real-time by Wi-Fi to a home network. The vacuum can be controlled remotely by PC or smartphone. It also responds to voice commands.
New Galaxy S II variant to be shown at next IFA
At the upcoming Unpacked event at IFA in Berlin, Samsung may reveal an updated version of its Galaxy S II smartphone, SlashGear learned from a teaser YouTube video that's been since made private. The so-called "light" teaser talks about "something big," which could indicate a larger screen size, perhaps up to 4.5 inches.
