Verizon ships XLTE-ready Ellipsis Jetpack Wi-Fi hotspot

The Verizon Ellipsis Jetpack mobile hotspot has gone on sale in the United States. The XLTE-ready device is able to provide connectivity to Verizon's 4G LTE network for up to eight devices over Wi-Fi, with the 2.9-ounce unit also sporting a 0.9-inch OLED display to show signal strength, data usage, and remaining battery life. The Ellipsis Jetpack is priced at $150, or $1 on a two-year contract, and can be added to an existing More Everything plan for $20 per month.

Switch brings local control to lineup, designer lamps 3d-printed

Philips has unveiled a trio of smart lighting accessories designed to support their Hue controllable lighting line. Leading off the announcements are the Hue Tap switch and a white-only variant of the Hue light called the Hue Lux. Also debuting are a trio of 3D-printed Hue Luminaires, bringing what the company calls "a piece of art to your living room."

Philips has added to its range of app-controlled light bulbs by introducing two new intelligent light sources. The Hue BR30 Downlights are designed to be used as spotlights and to highlight individual features, while a partnership with Disney has led to the StoryLight, which alters ambient lighting when used with a corresponding ebook app.

Philips Hue lighting adds location-based geofencing, IFTTT programming

Philips has introduced a downloadable update for its Hue lighting system. Version 1.1 brings several location-based features, referred to as "geofencing," that enable multicolor Hue bulbs to be automatically turned on or off or change color when residents approach or leave their home, without requiring preprogrammed scheduling.

Philips outs Hue system with LED lightbulbs, Wi-Fi control

Philips revealed a new product on Monday with the Hue LED lightbulb system. It will be sold exclusively at Apple stores starting on October 30, with a kit that includes three bulbs and a Wi-Fi bridge that connects to a router or as individual bulbs. Users can then control the color of the LED bulb through an app for their iOS-powered devices.
