The Casio GízOne Commando and HTC Droid Incredible demo units have arrived in Verizon stores. Also reportedly in stores ahead of their April 28 launch are the shipping units. While a number of details have slipped about the Droid Incredible 2, less is known about that Casio GízOne Commando, a ruggedized Android 2.2 smartphone for outdoor adventurers.
The rugged Casio G'zOne Brigade handset introduced by Verizon last fall is now on sale at the carrier. The water-, dust- and shock-resistant phone meets the MIL-STD-810F standard for toughness. The device flips open horizontally to reveal a full QWERTY hardware keyboard and a large 2.9-inch screen with a 480x270 resolution.
Casio is now spreading word of its G'zOne Brigade rugged handset, which has already been introduced by Verizon, suggesting the device is very near a release. Other than its MIL STD-810F compliance which lets it withstand some knocks, temperature extremes and water submersion, the Brigade also features push-to-talk functionality. It's a CDMA handset that supports EVDO Rev. A networks.
Verizon added a new rugged phone to its slate through the Casio G'zOne Rock. The clamshell is hardened to the military's 810F standards for dust- and waterproofing, shock and temperature but also now has six apps tailored for hiking and other outdoor activities. It uses its GPS both for a distance-aware compass as well as a pedometer; it also has independent apps for the lunar calendar, sunrise/sunset, temperatures and the tides.
