Unibody design, 468ppi pixel density, Snapdragon 600 processor
HTC has launched its new flagship smartphone in dual events in London and New York, one with a number of Sense-based refinements. The HTC One, previously called the M7 in rumors, houses an optically bonded 4.7-inch Super LCD 3 display with a full 1080p resolution and 468ppi pixel density inside a machined aluminum unibody, with Gorilla Glass 2 protecting the display.

Original version developed for first iPhone
Corning Incorporated today announced that it will highlight the company's newest specialty glass solutions, including Gorilla Glass 3, at CES. The new composition boasts durability enhancements, including three times the scratch resistance of the current generation of glass, found in the iPhone 5 and fourth-generation iPad.

Motion Computing tablets get SSDs, Ivy Bridge, steep price tags for professionals
Motion Computing has introduced two new Windows-powered rugged tablets this week with the C5t and F5t. Either weighs about 3lbs and sports a 10.4-inch touchscreen display with 1024x768 resolution. The C5t is meant for work indoors, as only the F5t has an optional View Anywhere display for viewing in direct sunlight.
The portable PCs aren't cheap, with prices starting at $2,236. Three year warranties are included in the price tags, however.

Corning does not reveal hardware partners for its latest Willow Glass product
Corning, which makes Gorilla Glass found in many portable electronics such as smartphones, tablets, and notebooks, has now introduced a new product called Willow Glass. It's promised to be very thin and flexible, allowing future gadgets to be wrapped completely in it, Corning said. Willow Glass will support thinner backplanes and color filters for OLED and LCD screens and enable the production of curved screens as well.

Will work to add more US-made parts
During his talk with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at today's "All Things D" conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook defending the company's China-heavy manufacturing of its most popular product, the iPhone. Cook said that even in its current version, the back of the iPhone could add "several parts of the US" to its "Made in China" label, pointing to ARM chip manufacturing and the Gorilla Glass used for the screen.

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 sent to makers for gear
Corning's Gorilla Glass 2 unveiled at CES has shipped to device makers, and consumers will be able to buy these products sometime this spring, likely by May, the company revealed. The new damage-resistant glass is said to be slimmer, offer brighter images, and have greater touch sensitivity than its predecessor. Some of the companies that confirmed tablets that will use Gorilla Glass 2 at MWC include ASUS and Acer.

Surface SUR40 arrives a year later
Microsoft on Monday confirmed that the first Surface 2.0 table, the Samsung Surface SUR40, was shipping. Coming out a year after it was first shown, the multi-touch table introduces optics in the panel itself that can see objects and react accordingly. It can now react to as many as 50 simultaneous contact points and uses a quicker 2.9GHz AMD Athlon II X2, a Radeon HD 6700M graphics chip, and runs on Windows 7.

Updated tech said to expand design possibilities
Corning has announced that it is set to introduce an improved version of its popular Gorilla Glass technology next week at CES. The second-generation formula, referred to as Gorilla Glass 2, is said to provide expanded flexibility for touchscreen devices with smaller form factors.

Streak Pro coming to China with Baidu Yi OS
Best known for its computers and monitors, Dell has just announced it will soon offer its Streak Pro smartphone in China, a key market for the company. Already promised for the Japanese market, the device is the first with the Baidu Yi mobile platform from China's Internet search giant Baidu. It integrates the popular Ting music service and other cloud services also offered by the search engine.

Corning product indicator of tablet market
Weaker than forecast non-iPad tablet demand, along with the completion of orders for the holiday season iPad buildup, have pushed Corning to lower its guidance for CY4Q, now down 25 percent from the previous quarter, reports UBS analyst Maynard Um in a note to investors. He estimates that Apple bought around 80 percent of the glass company's Gorilla Glass output through early December, making the company the major client for Corning and a leading indicator of iPad demand.

ASUS outs business tablet with Core i5, Win 7 Pro
ASUS has just introduced its business-oriented Eee Slate B121 PC. The 12.1-inch, 1280x800 tablet is similar to the original Eee Slate but tuned to workers, with security coming from a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and Computrace LoJack for remote location and data wipes. It likewise ships with Windows 7 Professional, although it still has the Gorilla Glass display and a 1.33GHz low-voltage Core i5.

Schott intros Xensation glass for mobile devices
German company Schott just announced it will finally bring a competitor to Corning's Gorilla Glass with its Xensation product. It promises to be stronger and can be used for capacitive and resistive touch applications as well as optical and acoustic glass. Depending on said application, there are different Xensation-branded glass products made up of different materials.

Tag Heuer outs ultra-luxury rugged Link phone
Tag Heuer is no stranger to making ultra-luxury handsets, and is now back with another mega-dollar offering. The Android-powered Link smartphone differs from other similar exclusive devices as it's more rugged. The maker says the device is impervious to water, shock, and dust, and has a 3.5-inch Gorilla Glass screen to guard against scratches.

Dell Venue Pro finally shipw in the UK
The Dell Venue Pro smartphone is now available in the UK, after suffering delays. The unlocked device is available directly from Dell, priced at £382.50 (about $620). The phone runs on Windows Phone 7 and features a 4.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 800x480 pixels that's covered by curved Gorilla Glass.

Latest ultra rugged Sonim handset has long life
Sonim has brought its latest ultra-rugged handset to the Mobile World Congress show in Spain with the XP3300 Force. While the exterior is the same tried and tested design shared by others in the lineup, it differs by offering talk time that ranges between 20 and 24 hours. Alternatively, the phone can last the same amount of time in GPS tracking mode, or up to 800 hours in standby.

Asahi Dragontrail to rival Gorilla Glass
Asahi Glass unveiled a new form of ultra-strong glass meant to take on Corning's Gorilla Glass for use in mobile devices. Dragontrail has the same near-scratchproof surface as its American rival, will survive most common drops and can take 16kg (35lbs) of concerted pressure that could bend the display without breaking. The survivability lets hardware manufacturers use thinner glass as well and can result in both slimmer and thinner devices.

Pre 2 demo shows focus on speed, quality enhanced
HP has confirmed that its HP Palm Pre 2 will be sold directly through HP SIM-unlocked. Also confirmed is that the device will include premium Gorilla Glass in a sign that HP has worked hard to ensure that Pre 2 build quality is improved over the original Pre. HP Palm Senior Product Manager Tim Pettitt (video below) demos the new device and explains that the development focus in the new webOS 2 has been on optimizing speed and multi-tasking performance.

Gorilla glass to be used in shatter-resistant TVs
Corning's super-strong Gorilla glass, used thus far in cellphones that include the Droid and is rumored to be part of the iPhone 4, may soon be used in the production of high-end HDTVs and touchscreen tablets. According to reports, the company expects this to result in bezel-free TVs, with the glass itself protecting the display. Corning is currently in talks with Asian TV makers to bring its product to their TVs early in 2011.
