Google extends Inbox availability to Google Apps for Work users

Google is expanding the availability of its Inbox app to users of its Google Apps for Work service. The Google for Work blog advises that it is going to be sending out invitations to administrator accounts granting access to the Inbox early adopter program, allowing users to use the Inbox app to manage their work Gmail account.

Google adds more editing options to Google Docs for Android

Google Docs for Android has been updated to provide more from its Office Compatibility Mode. The latest version allows for the cutting, copying, and pasting of text, images, tables, and charts in the mode, according to the Google Apps Updates blog, with the app also introducing the ability to insert links into Google documents. The updated app is available to download now from Google Play.

Google Classroom launches apps for iOS and Android

Google has released iOS and Android apps to accompany its Google Classroom web platform. Initially launched last summer, Google Classroom allows teachers to create and collect assignments paperlessly, available to anyone with Google Apps for Education. The new native Classroom app for iOS and Android broadens the capacity for teachers and students to connect with each other, and features photo sharing, sharing content from other apps and offline caching.

Producers of Android smartphones and tablets will need to increase the promotion of Google apps and services in their devices in the future, according to a report. It is claimed a number of hardware partners including Samsung, Huawei, and HTC will have to accept a new set of terms before being able to use Android, as Google attempts to keep users within its ecosystem.

Google has withdrawn the free version of its Apps for Business to new registrations. Originally offered as free to organizations with less than 200 users, Google has reduced the user count periodically over time to the most recent 10-user limit, and now forces individuals to use the personal Google Account or face paying for the single "for Businesses" option.

Google's long-upcoming Google Drive might be close to a real launch after leaks on Tuesday. The cloud storage service was slated by GigaOm sources to be coming during the first week of April. It would potentially be a step back from Dropbox, providing 1GB for free instead of 2GB and thus bringing more people into the paid version.

The state of Wyoming said Wednesday that it has completed transitioning its 10,000 employees to Google's Apps for Government platform. This makes Wyoming the first state government to adopt Google's web apps across the board. It had been using Lotus Notes for its e-mail and other online services.

Android gets Find My iPhone-like enterprise tools

Google late this week took a cue from Apple to bolster Android in the workplace. A combination of a new version of the Google Apps Device Policy app (Market) and a new My Devices page lets workers control a lost or stolen phone similar to Find My iPhone. They can track the device's location, reset the PIN code, ring it to help others find it, or lock it entirely.
