Mass Effect developer working on a co-op action-RPG game with a focus on story
Bioware, the game developer behind some of the most popular role-playing games (RPS) in the last 15 years including Mass Effect and Baldur's Gate, revealed details about its next game during GamesCom this week. What started out as a cryptic series of trailers featuring people stuck in nightmares has turned out to be a call to co-op action in Shadow Realms.
Critically panned Daikatana last FPS game from Romero, new game in planning stage
More exciting news has come out of GamesCom this week, as a gaming industry veteran announced his return to the world of first person shooters. John Romero, known as one of the pioneers of the genre from his work with id Software, announced to Joystiq that he is working on his first shooter in over 14 years.
Date changes, beta launch dates and console exclusive titles outlined during press event
[Updated with Phil Spencer's comments on Rise of the Tomb Raider being a timed exclusive] During the Microsoft press event at Gamescom today, a number of announcements were made regarding some upcoming games and beta programs. While there wasn't much in the way of brand new games, some important date shifts were noted, as was the announcement that a sequel to one of the most successful games of 2013 would be exclusive to Xbox One.
Gamescom PS4 media event revealed PlayStation TV shipping to Europe in November
Sony is bringing the PlayStation TV to Europe, a month after its US launch, the company revealed as part of its Gamescom media event earlier today. The company also laid out its plans for future updates to the PlayStation 4 game console at the event, as well as advising that it has passed the 10 million unit sales milestone for the console, up from the 7 million it reported back in April.
Wired, wireless version ship at end of September
At the German GamesCom expo today, Creative Technology announced both a wireless and wired version of the Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage gaming headset for PC and Mac. The headsets feature 50mm full-spectrum drivers, with a frequency response of 20Hz through 20KHz.
Spotted documents make Gamescom reveal a probability
Sony may be coming out with a revised PlayStation 3 that is even smaller than the revised model introduced three years ago. An FCC filing seen by PocketNews shows an unknown PlayStation 3 with the model number CECH-4001X, which Eurogamer suggests is a "Super Slim" version, rumored to be unveilled at Gamescom next month.
Samsung outs 700G7A gaming notebook in Europe
A new 700G7A notebook from Samsung is aimed squarely at gamers. It has been spotted at a GamesCom press conference by German site NewGadgets and reveals a 17.3-inch screen with 1080p resolution. A 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6970m GPU is onboard as is a 2GHz quad-core Core i7 processor.
Nokia and Microsoft to hold event at GamesCom
Nokia and Microsoft have sent out invitations for a special event that could be the venue for the introduction of Nokia's first Windows phone. The August 17 gathering at Cologne's GamesCom expo is cast as a "Nokia & Microsoft party" with live music. It would also pack "exciting actions and surprises," according to The Unwired's copy, hinting that there may be an unveiling.
