TiVo has put its new Slide Pro Remote on sale. Much like the original, the Slide Pro Remote resembles a normal TiVo remote, but conceals a backlit QWERTY keyboard in a second layer. This new version, which includes RF support, dedicated "Search" and "Back" buttons, and can play a tune when lost, will work with all TiVo Roamio DVRs, TiVo Premiere DVRs, and TiVo Minis with a dongle, and is priced at $50.
Microsoft has cut the price of its Surface Pro yet again, following the launch of its revised Windows tablet line. The original discounted price of $799 for the base 64GB model has been lowered by another $100 to $699, reports The Next Web, with the 128GB and 256GB versions selling for $799 and $999 respectively. This new discounted price, just like the earlier one, will only apply in the US and Canada and is said to expire at the end of this year, though Microsoft may choose to make it permanent again.
Samsung will be bringing Galaxy Gear compatibility to more devices than previously thought. The manufacturer will not only allow the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, and Note III to communicate with the smart watch via a scheduled Android 4.3 update, but also adding devices to the compatibility list through a smaller software update.
The inbound Android version 4.3 update for Samsung smartphones has leaked, weeks ahead of its expected launch. The software upgrade for the Galaxy S 4 has surfaced on the Internet at the same time as news that the same update heading to the HTC One will be heading to T-Mobile users sometime over the next week.
Android version 4.3 will be reaching the Samsung Galaxy S 4 in October, according to a European carrier's update roadmap. SFR of France has revealed that, just as reported earlier, the Galaxy S 4 will be the first of three Samsung devices to get the update to 4.3 Jelly Bean, with the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II both getting it at a later time.
Samsung is preparing to sell a version of the Galaxy S 4 with gold trim. An image on the company's Arabian Twitter account shows a gold edition, reports The Verge, while its Facebook page shows both a Gold Pink and Gold Brown version. It is though that the gold editions will only be sold in the Middle East, though considering the popularity of the iPhone 5s in the color, it could appear in other markets in the future. Samsung will be bringing Android 4.3 to two more Galaxy devices later this year, after revealing its new Galaxy Note 3 will ship with the latest version of Jelly Bean. Both the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S 4 will receive the mobile operating system update, which will be issued to carriers sometime in October, and will reach customer devices shortly afterward.
Yahoo is starting to offer older disused usernames up for reuse, and allowing potential owners to pay $2 for alerts when a username expires. The new Watchlist will allow a user to monitor up to 5 usernames, with e-mails automatically sent when any names on the list become dormant in a three-year period. Usernames will also be held for 14 days, giving the Watchlist user time to register without added competition from other potential username owners.
DisplayMate has run an in depth analysis on the new Super AMOLED 5-inch 1080p display in the Samsung Galaxy S4 giving its seal of approval. According to the site, the quality of AMOLED displays is starting to “challenge the best performance of the best LCDs.” Compared to the display in the superseded Galaxy S III, the new Galaxy S4 display is said to be better calibrated and brighter.
