Appearing on CNN's New Day, Senator Al Franken (D-MN) voiced his concerns regarding the recent deal that would see AT&T purchasing DirecTV for $48.5 billion. Asked about the mega-merger, Franken pointed out that the deal would likely raise prices further for consumers, and likely treads on antitrust grounds.
United States Senator Al Franken has issued a letter to Samsung, questioning the security of its newest device, the Galaxy S5, in regard to its fingerprint scanner. Franken hopes that the company will be able to shed light on the privacy concerns surrounding the scanner, specifically approaching the use of a permanent fingerprint as a security measure. Franken was also responsible for a letter sent to Apple addressing similar concerns in 2013 over the Touch ID reader in the iPhone.
Comcast is scheduled to appear before Congress to defend its proposed $45 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable. Records have recently been uncovered that show Comcast's political action committee having given contributions to 15 of 18 Senate Judiciary Committe members, and 32 of 39 members of the House Judiciary Committee. Both committees have scheduled hearings regarding the merger, and can allow -- or prevent -- the buyout from happening.
