Fire HD 8, HD 10 tablets accompanied by new Kids Edition, low-price Fire

Amazon is refreshing its range of Fire mobile devices by introducing four updated tablets to the collection, alongside its Fire TV announcement. The Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 joins the existing Fire HD6 in the range, and while the Fire Kids Edition gets some minor changes, the original Fire tablet has been given significantly more attention, with the online retailer redoubling its efforts to make it an ideal entry-level device by pricing it at $50, with an extra bonus for buying multiple devices.

Man claims battery spontaneously exploded, lit his leg and pants on fire

An iPhone has reportedly exploded in a Long Island, New York man's pocket, sending him to the burn ward for 10 days. Erik Johnson was given a swath of third-degree burns on his left thigh after he bent over to get keys, when he heard a pop and, according to Johnson's claims, the battery burst and caught on fire, burning the man severely. An iPhone 5c belonging to a MacNN editor isn't seeing any bulging or any signs of problem, nor have we heard any previous claims for this model, but Johnson has photographic proof of the explosion.


Samsung data center fire causes service outage for apps, websites

No reported fatalities in South Korean data center fire

A number of Samsung online services were unavailable for several hours this weekend, after major incident at a Samsung data center used for backing-up data. A fire at the Samsung SDS building in Gwacheon, South Korea caused the outage, which reportedly affected smartphones, tablets, and Smart TV apps that connect to the center in order to function, with services restored hours later.


Fire at Internet Archive causes $600,000 of equipment, building damage

Non-profit asking for donations to continue scanning efforts

A fire at a building owned by the Internet Archive, the non-profit behind the Wayback Machine, has caused an estimated $600,000 of damage. The organization's scanning center in San Francisco caught fire at 3:30am, and while no-one was hurt nor any data lost by the incident, the building and equipment used for scanning and digitization were all damaged.


Amazon has most publishers for Kindle Fire tablet

Amazon has 3 tablet pubs, gives subscrber data

Amazon has three out of the major four US publishers onboard for its Kindle tablet launch this Wednesday, tipsters disclosed Monday alongside details of the tablet itself. They briefed AllThingsD that Condé Nast, Hearst, and Meredith will all supply magazines to the Android device. Time, already on the iPad, is in stalled talks but could be available by the end of 2011.
