Sept. 26 to mark second wave of international iPhone 6 launches

The second group of international iPhone 6/6 Plus launches will happen on September 26, checks at Apple's international storefronts indicate. Some countries discovered so far include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The United Arab Emirates will get the new phones on September 27.

Apple's Volume Purchase Program is coming to 16 more locations in the near future, according to pages on the company's Business and Education sites. Most of the new regions are in Europe, including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Also joining in are Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

The 8GB iPhone 5c is now on sale in 14 more countries, checks show. When the 8GB option first became available last month, it launched in just a handful of regions. The model is newly available in the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Spain, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Switzerland.

Apple Maps Flyover coverage expands to Helsinki, Cape Town

Apple has added two new cities to the areas covered by Maps' Flyover feature, users note. These include Helsinki, Finland and Cape Town, South Africa. The official list of cities with Flyover support has yet to be updated, but Apple hasn't made any changes to it in some time, despite constant service improvements during 2013.

Jolla readies Sailfish OS smartphone for limited sale on November 27

First 450 Jolla devices to be sold in Helsinki pop-up shop

Jolla has confirmed it will be shipping the first batch of its first smartphone, running on the MeeGo-based Sailfish OS, the on November 27. Only 450 units of the device will be available at first, with the initial batch of handsets created by ex-Nokia employees being sold at a pop-up shop in Helsinki, priced at €399 ($535).

Subsequent rollout phase set for November 1st

The iPhone 5s and 5c will launch in over 28 more countries on October 25th, Apple has announced. Italy, Russia, and Spain have been identified as the main launch regions that day, but the list also includes countries like Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, and Thailand. On November 1st, still another 12-plus countries will be added, including India, Mexico, and Turkey.

Huawei Ascend Mate priced by UK retailer, Finish carrier

The Huawei Ascend P6 has opened up for pre-orders in the United Kingdom and Finland. The 6.18mm (0.24-inch) thick smartphone with a 4.7-inch 720p display has appeared on the British retail chain Carphone Warehouse website for 330 ($510) and shipping on July 4th, while carrier Elisa in Finland are offering it for 359 euro ($475) in mid-July.

The one confirmed country is France, where the feature has been tested with both iTunes and the Apple TV. Various people on Twitter, however, are claiming that the option is now also available in Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

Five-year investment will hire 100 staff, work on UI

Huawei intends to spend 70 million euro ($93 million) on a new research and development facility in Finland. The new location in Helsinki, Finland's capital city, is roughly 13 miles away from Nokia's headquarters in Espoo, will initially employ 30 staff and will swell to 100 over a five year period, and will bring the company's global R&D staff to over 70,000.

The family of a 9-year-old file sharer in Finland was raided by police earlier this week. The seizure of equipment, including a Disney-branded laptop owned by the child, followed after the family's refusal to abide to Finnish anti-piracy group CIAPC's demands, and has now led to the musical artist to speak out against the legal action.

The third-generation iPad is now on sale in an additional 25 countries. The emphasis is mostly on Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden are included. The only non-European countries are in fact Macau, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Global iPlayer will make it to the iPhone and iPod touch on December 8th, the BBC has announced. The paid video-on-demand service has been available on the iPad for about five months. A list of countries getting the iPhone app on the 8th includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Apple will finally bring the Apple TV to seven more European countries on Tuesday, a MacRumors report says. The company has allegedly informed resellers of the plan, which should specifically see the set-top come to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. In Finland, at least, pricing is expected to be 119, or about $160. In the US the hardware sells for just $99 before tax.

(Updated with Swedish info) Ten more European Union countries should soon be getting access to the iTunes Music Store, according to a music industry source in touch with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita. Only Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic are mentioned by name. Apple though is said to be essentially ready to go with the expansion; a separate source suggests an October launch, which could in theory coincide with the company's October 4th press event or follow sometime thereafter.

Apple has confirmed plans to release the iPhone 4 in 17 more regions on Friday. Finnish carrier offering legal iPhone 3G unlock?

Legitimate iPhone unlock?

It is now possible to legally unlock an iPhone, one website claims. One of the site's writers claims to have unlocked an iPhone 3G as a result of paying for the remainder of a two-year contract with Sonera, the exclusive iPhone distributor in Finland. The writer gave his IMEI number to a Sonera store manager, alleged authorized to submit IMEIs to Apple using a "special piece of software." The manager informed the writer that the next time the phone was synced with iTunes it would be unlocked via a carrier settings update.
