FTP Maker 1.4 ($30) is a tool that helps users create a custom FTP Uploader package to be distributed to employees/customers/co-workers for simplifying the process of sending files to an FTP server. The generated package contains all of the connection parameters meaning the user does not have to manually set them up. Version 1.5 has added a new log feature along with a new parametric prefix for creating a single zip file with custom prefix. Forklift 1.7 ($45) is a file manager for Mac OS X that connects to FTP or SFTP servers and manages Amazon S3 accounts or mobile devices over Bluetooth. The update now allows users to create zip, pkzip, tar.gz, tar.bz2 and add password protection to zip archives. Fetch Softworks has released an update to its flagship program, Fetch 5.5. The program uploads files to servers, where users can then download the content from remote locations. The update enables users to edit any sort of remote file using any application. The FTP program also utilizes Quick Look, allowing uploaded files to be viewed without leaving the software interface. YummySoup! 1.8 ($20) is a recipe organization tool which features a full screen view and text to speech options. The software also allows cooks to use an Apple Remote to flip through recipes and access an online library of user-created recipes. The new update includes a new feature which can scale recipes. The software determines what scaling factor to used based on how many people the recipe will be for and calculates all the new values. rubiTrack 1.6 ($39) allows users to track their physical activity and then display and organize the corresponding data. Information from runs, bike rides, walks or other outdoor activities can be placed on a map and then compared side by side. Information can then be sorted into graphs so users can analyze progress against personal goals. Contour 1.1 ($50) is a story development tool that can help with the process of turning a movie idea into a full outline. The software uses a fill-in the-blanks approach where the user is asked series of questions on topics like loglines, the protagonist's growth and the beats to be used in each of four acts. Xnet Communications has released Captain FTP 6, the latest version of its file transfer and automation program. The update adds support for Amazon's S3 backup service, along with synchronization scheduling and WebDav editing for remote documents. Users can now automatically e-mail a URL link to a remote file or folder, or add duplicate entries in the address book. The program also allows offline browsing and file listing from Amazon or WebDav. Several bugs have been fixed, including a cache issue that would crash during browsing and a problem that caused the application to use 100 percent of the processor resources. [full story]

CyberDuck 3.1 is an open source FTP and SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer) browser licensed under the GPL. The application features integration with external editors, as well as support for many Mac OS X system technologies such as Spotlight, Bonjour, the Keychain, and AppleScript. Version 3.1 has added support for both Amazon CloudFront (in conjunction with Amazon S3) and Cloud Files from Rackspace. CyberDuck also now features pre-configured protocol settings for MobileMe iDisk and can send rbitrary commands over SSH using the "Send Command" interface. SimpleImage 5.1 ($20) allows users to organize images and movies, and remembers the last 250 files that were opened with the exact preview information that they were last viewed with, such as size, position and movie length. The app can also create snapshots of groups of windows, and can run slideshows that use Apple's Core Image technology for its transition effects. Version 5.1 adds the ability to color-correct, sharpen and apply effects filters to images, and also lets users set background, text and drop-shadow colors for contact sheets generated from movies and browsers. Maxum Development on Tuesday launched Rumpus 6.0, an update to its FTP program for Mac OS X. The release includes a new tool, FileWatch, for monitoring activity. A sharing feature has also been added for user administrators, making it possible to create sub-administrators that can manage user accounts. Server preferences have been expanded, and now allow configuration of multiple upload triggers for individual accounts. An IP address “whitelist” adds to the available controls for client access. ExtendMac has announced an update to its FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and .Mac client, Flow. The software is designed to streamline certain tools that are normally excluded from FTP clients. Flow features a code editor that can be used for writing things such as HTML, and also includes features like tabs, colored syntax and code completion suggestions. Version 1.1 includes some of the most requested advancements, while also improving overall stability: it offers improved error-handeling, public iDisk support, as well as more secure WebDAV and MobileMe iDisk authentications. Yazsoft has posted updates for its two Speed Download applications, which manage and resume downloads, and (depending on the version) can provide miscellaneous services such as an FTP client, an RSS reader, and support for iDisk and WebDAV. Speed Download 5.0.7 and SD Lite 1.0.4 have been newly optimized for Mac OS X 10.5.5, and now support Apple's long-standing AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) format. [full story]

The creator of CrushFTP has released v4.9 of the program, introducing a number of minor and major changes. The software operates as a file server, and supports a number of FTP, HTTP and WebDAV protocols. The update adds support for the WebDAV changes in Mac OS X 10.5.3, and a new file encryption option, which encrypts files as they are uploaded but decrypts them for authorized downloaders. CrushFTP 4.8 was unveiled on Friday, providing several new features and bug fixes, including a few interface optimizations. The CrushUploader file browser has been refined, and can handle forms on multiple batches. CrushSQL users are able to request their password through email, and the "freespace" tag shows available drive space on a given volume.
