ASUS will launch its latest flagship tablet, dropping the "Eee" moniker but gaining a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, in the US on April 22nd, PCWorld reports. The 10.1-inch Transformer Pad 300 will run Google's Android 4.0, and act as a successor to the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, a name that is being retired even before the court case Hasbro brought over the name has been settled. The new model is said to be similar but lower-priced.
The uniquely designed ASUS Eee Tablet, first unveiled at Computex this year is set to be renamed and launched at CES 2011 according to a report. A couple of names have been mooted as possibilities with Eee Note being the most likely, although Digital Note has also been raised as a possibility. The device, which will not directly compete with e-readers, the iPad or Galaxy Tab can be used for reading text, but is also designed for highly accurate drawing and note-taking.
ASUS has said that its eight-inch Eee Tablet is due for release in October. The e-book reader sports a 64-grayscale TFT-LCD screen that does not have a backlight, and will be priced at $599. The release is about a month later and between $300 and $400 dearer than expected before.
ASUS in its Computex launches has brought out a third slate that doesn't compete directly either with the iPad or e-readers. The Eee Tablet can read text but is meant as a drawing and note-taking companion to a computer and centers on its very precise display. At an extremely high 2,450DPI sensitivity, the 8-inch grayscale display has accuracy more like paper and at 1024x768 is sharper than most other tablets.
