BlackBerry gets OpenGL ES, micropay, more
RIM opened up the BlackBerry Developers Conference by revealing the first modern 3D support for its smartphones. Those using a new Java SDK for BlackBerry OS 5.0 can now use OpenGL ES graphics and produce games or other 3D apps with contemporary effects. The SDK is currently in beta but should be available today.

TomTom Eclipse AVN4430
While it has not yet officially been revealed to the public, a new car stereo and navigation system combination developed in collaboration with TomTom and Eclipse has been spotted thanks to an award the device will win at the 2009 CES show. While no official specifications on the AVN4430 have been revealed, it is likely to share many with the current ACN2210p unit. One visible upgrade is the larger 4.3-inch widescreen of the removable TomTom personal navigation unit compared to the current one's 3.5-inch screen as well as a slightly revised control layout on the host Eclipse unit's face plate.

Servoy 4.0 announced
Servoy has announced Servoy 4.0, a new version of its cross-platform application development and deployment environment. Servoy consists of a powerful GUI designer that is fully event-driven and scriptable through JavaScript. Version 4.0 is now an Eclipse-based plug-in for improved productivity via a standards-based IDE; it also adds new Team Synchronization features to connect to CVS and Subversion, new form inheritance and form variables, live client debugging to both client/server and browser-based deployments, plug-ins for custom menus and Jasper Reports integration, and more. The company also announced it is hosting three Webinars on the new features of Servoy 4.0; "What's New in Servoy 4.0"; as well as "Comparing 4.0 With Previous Versions"; and "Getting Started in Servoy 4.0". All are offered free for developers already creating solutions with Servoy.
