As you might expect from a podcast with our title, most episode tend to lean heavily on the Apple-related news of the week, though we generally make sure to spend at least a little time on other big tech stories outside Apple's sphere. To celebrate our 20th episode, and because the big event was this week, we spend the majority of our time on the E3 gaming conference and its many announcements. Over 100 Xbox 360 games will be playable on Xbox One by end of this year

[strong]Updated with pricing on new Xbox One Pro controller[/strong] Owners of the Xbox One will be able to see their game library expand, with the introduction of backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 titles coming to the console in the near future. The hardware announcements at Microsoft's E3 event also include a new controller for the Xbox One that includes a number of customizable elements to allow gamers to get the most out of the games they play, as well as some Windows 10 and VR items.

E3: Starbreeze takes on Oculus with StarVR headset with QHD panels

Wider field of view, higher resolution touted in Starbreeze VR headset

Starbreeze, the producers of Syndicate, Brothers, and parent company of Payday developer Overkill, is entering the virtual reality business with its own hardware. Introduced at the same time as Starbreeze revealed it acquired VR headset producer InfinitEye, the prototype StarVR headset is claimed to have a 210-degree field of view, far wider than the horizontal field of view offered by its major competition, the Oculus Rift.

Nintendo is continuing to focus on its well-known stable of franchises during its E3 event. Opting for a pre-produced YouTube stream instead of a Sony or Microsoft-style live event, the brisk 45-minute show revealed the game producer is still looking for ways for the Wii U to stay relevant to gamers, with the only major hardware announcement of the event involving NFC-equipped figurines.

In the first E3 keynote since the launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft has opted to spend time promoting upcoming games for the console, instead of introducing new features, hardware, or accessories like it did last year. The company showcased a number of titles for the console at the event, including releases from the Halo, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty franchises, as it attempts to prove to the public it should buy the Xbox One instead of the PlayStation 4.

Company expands conference experience viewing options to fans stuck at home

Sony is thinking a little outside of the box when it comes to giving people the access they need during their E3 2014 press conference. For those unable to make the trip to Los Angeles in June, the company has teamed up with movie theaters across North America to broadcast the event in high definition on over 40 screens.

Hands on: Acer Liquid E3, Liquid Z4

Mid-range and budget smartphones from Acer offer mixed results

Last week, Acer launched the mid-ranged Liquid E3 and the entry-level Liquid Z4 smartphones, successors to the Liquid E2 and Z3 respectively. Both appeared to be low-cost devices for light or intermediate use, and unusually for the price bracket, offered a rear-mounted button for taking images. Electronista headed to the devices at Mobile World Congress to test both of them out.

Sony promises 20 new titles at E3, more

Sony to stream live E3 webcast, promises future of gameplay at E3

Sony has invited the press to a conference before the E3 gaming show on its dedicated website. At the show, it plans to reveal 20 new game titles and what it calls the "future of gameplay and innovation." Exactly what that involves remains to be seen, but it could have something to do with its next-generation home console, the Orbis. That console will not be unveiled at the show, however, the company said earlier.

Sega: iPhone hardware as powerful as Dreamcast

Sega on iPhone hardware

The hardware in the iPhone is about as powerful as the now-defunct Dreamcast console, according to Sega of America president Simon Jeffrey. The comparison comes from an interview at this week's E3 gaming expo, and refers to Sega's last official hardware, released in 1998. While outdated in terms of living room consoles, most other phones are relegated to performance closer to Sony's original PlayStation, or even earlier machines like the Super Nintendo.
