Developers of the Android based browser Dolphin HD (free, Google Play) have redesigned the user interface along with improving the performance. The gesture and voice based browser by Mobotap reached v8.0 with changes to make it easier to use.
The upgradeable Dolphin browser for Android devices has just received two add-ons from its makers. It now supports Skitch and Evernote browser extensions. The Skitch extension (free, Android Market) is a byproduct of the Skitch app and lets users make sketches on any web content found in the browser. It can be used to make notes on a map, text from a web page, classified ad, or more.
Earlier this week, it was alleged that the Dolphin Browser app, popular with many Android phone and tablet users, was collecting personal information from its users when they accessed the browser's Webzine tab. Dolphin has acknowledged that the information was actually collected, but that it was never stored on Dolphin's servers. In its blog, Dolphin claimed that the practice has been temporarily suspended.
One of Android's better-known apps, Dolphin Browser, has been given a long-requested port to the iPhone (free, App Store). The iOS version of MoboTap's software uses Apple's WebKit engine but brings features that have yet to reach Safari. It already has tabbed browsing ahead of iOS 5, a Firefox-style address bar with search results, and gesture-based shortcuts for common tasks.
The app store for virtually all smartphone platforms that is GetJar on Wednesday announced it has rejected the Opera Mini web browser from its offerings. Citing a competitive conflict, GetJar CMO Patrick Mork, explained that Opera Mini has an app store embedded in its browser. This was after the company posted a tweet that stated Opera Mini violated GetJar's terms and conditions.
The Dolphin Browser Mini has entered the Android Market in open beta form. The lightweight browser is tasked with being as fast as possible, and therefore lacks many of the features found in Dolphin HD and the standard Dolphin. Chief among the browser's features are a new user interface with a Speed Dial homepage that offers a place to store favorites.
