Get more from your Mac's built-in dictation tools

This is about getting more from dictation in OS X, but really it's about getting anything from it at all: we're prepared to bet that you've never even switched the feature on. That might be because you're already addicted to Dragon Dictate, and if that is the case, you carry on. If it's that you just haven't looked, or if you don't believe you need it though, OS X Yosemite's dictation is far better and more genuinely useful than you mght expect.

Dragon Dictate Medical for Mac updated to version 4

Nuance, makers of Dragon Dictation software, announced this week an update to Dragon Dictate Medical for Mac. The fourth version of the text-to-speech software, which includes 90 medical vocabularies, now supports OS X Yosemite (10.10), dictating into Mac-based electronic health records (EHR) programs such as MacPractice, as well as MS Office products, or the Gmail web client.

MacSpeech Dictate, mic selection now available

MacSpeech Dictate shipping

MacSpeech today announced that MacSpeech Dictate is now available for purchase directly from the company's website. In addition, potential customers can choose from a variety of specialized microphones, including desktop mounted ones or wireless versions. When purchased inside the United States, MacSpeech Dictate starts at $200 when purchased with a basic USB headset, while users can opt to pay $30 to $150 for a microphone more suitable to their needs.

MacSpeech Dictate starts shipping rollout

MacSpeech ships

MacSpeech today announced that its three-stage rollout of MacSpeech Dictate has begun, saying that pre-orders have shipped to iListen Founding Customers. MacSpeech's next objective is to ship crossgrades from customers who pre-ordered the product at MacWorld Expo, and then finally to various retail stores and resellers. In addition, MacSpeech also said that the application is available for pre-order from MacMall for customers in the US. MacSpeech Dictate is available for $200, featuring a choice of headsets.
