HTC intros Touch Diamond in snow white

September 16 - 4:45pm EDT   HTC has quietly added a new color for its Touch Diamond handset, according to a Tuesday report on The Unwired. Joining the red backing offered exclusively on Sprint‘s version and the original all-black handset, the Touch Diamond will soon be available in a snow white color. Apart from the new color, no other changes to the company’s best-selling handset were announced, so the same 2.8-inch touchscreen, 4GB of internal memory, aGPS and Wi-Fi features can be expected. The Taiwan-area phone creator now plans to increase shipments of the Windows Mobile phone from its earlier two million-unit forecast to about three million, or a full 50 percent higher than before. Where it took the original Touch 11 months to reach three million, the Diamond should only take the 7 months of June through December to reach that goal, according to Chou. [full story]

The phone is the first to incorporate HTC's new TouchFLO 3D interface and uses it to access messaging, media, and other features without reverting to a stylus or the directional pad; common operations such as calling should be usable with just one finger, the company claims. To support the new interface, the Diamond uses Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes a 640x480, 2.8-inch touchscreen that offers four times the crispness of the original, 320x240 Touch. [full story]

Mitsubishi sets laser TV launch, intros DLPs and LCDs

April 7 - 11:30am EDT   Mitsubishi on Monday took advantage of the gap between electronics shows to firm up its HDTV lineup, including the first-ever laser TVs. Originally shown at CES, the laser-based range is now to be called LaserVue and should be available sometime during the summer. While most details of sets themselves are unknown, the news makes laser TV only the second next-generation HDTV technology after OLED to ship and will reportedly eliminate most of the problems of both LCDs and plasma: the screen jumps from showing just 40 percent of the visible color range to 200 percent and consumes half the power of an LCD. It can also display 3D imagery with the right support. [full story]
