November 25 - 6:35am EST Adobe on Tuesday released an update to its Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in. Adobe Camera Raw 5.2, available as a free download, extends raw file support to an additional seven camera models, including the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Panasonic DMC LX3. According to the company, the update provides several new enhancements including the Targeted Adjustment Tool for on-image refinements and output sharpening for print or screen output. Also, users now have the ability to create a snapshot of all adjustments made to an image as a bookmark for future reference. [full story]

Adobe has released an update to the Adobe Digital Negative specification (DNG), its publicly available archival format for the raw files generated by digital cameras. The DNG 1.2.0 Specification (May 2008) provides new and expanded specifications that offer increased flexibility and improved workflow for their raw images, including formalization of the concept of a "camera profile" and allowance for multiple camera profiles to be embedded in a single DNG file. Adobe has also defined additional metadata tags for the DNG format, including a field to indicate the integrity of the raw data within the file, offering a tool to validate the safety of photographers' image data. ...
