Group spans Canada, France, Italy, Australia, US
Apple has revealed five additional store openings taking place this weekend. Outlets in Shanghai and Hong Kong were announced earlier this week, but the company has only just, for instance, confirmed that it will indeed launch the Metrotown location this week. The shop is based in Burnaby, British Columbia within the greater Vancouver area, and will start taking in the public at 10AM Saturday morning.

Company taking steps to fight smash-and-grabs
Apple is encountering local opposition to a plan to install a security gate at its Greenwich store in Connecticut, a local publication reports. Once complete, the gate should extend from the floor to the ceiling, protecting against burglars smashing the windows. The addition is said to be out of character for Greenwich Avenue however, which is lined with boutiques and even lacks traffic lights. Only one other business on the street has a security gate.

Schools take advantage of retail book decline
Through an announcement, the president of Connecticut's Fairfield University has hinted at the presence of Apple in an upcoming bookstore. He explains that the school's current on-campus bookstore will soon take over a former Borders location downtown, specifically situated at 1499 Post Road. The university is said to be "in discussions with an industry leading computer retailer to have a presence in the bookstore."

Apple gear bought using stolen credit info
The US government has indicted 27 people suspected of belonging to a fraud ring targeting Apple Stores, reports say. The group is accused of making fake credit cards using stolen data bought from the Internet, and in turn fraudulently buying $1 million or more in goods from Apple Stores in 13 states. Products like Macs and gift cards were fenced to bring in cash.
