We try out upcoming Dodge Dart's digital dash

We stopped by Chrysler's outdoor display at CES to check out the digital dashboard and UConnect system of the upcoming Dodge Dart compact sedan. While the car itself was nowhere to be found, as it was in Detroit after making its debut there earlier this week, we had a chance to play with the car's UConnect system as a dash mock-up was available in the trailer. The 7-inch TFT screen sits between an analog tachometer on the left and a traditional fuel gauge on the right and always shows the speedometer.

Beats, Monster Cable split on headphone projects

Beats and Monster Cable disagree on credit

Beats and Monster Cable have ended their partnership together on headphones, the two sides revealed this week. The two are now focusing independently on their own headphones. A pair of sources for Bloomberg added that Monster purportedly wanted more credit for the designs than Beats was willing to give.

Chevy SUVs, trucks get on-road wireless

Chevrolet today became the latest automaker in the US to add roving Internet access to its vehicles. The Avalanche, Equinox, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse all now have an after-sale option of an Autonet router that provides a 1.5Mbps connection even at speed. Like the Chrysler option, it accomplishes the feat by sharing a 3G link over a local Wi-Fi hotspot that shares the connection with passengers and those within a 150-foot radius.

Chrysler Web Edition cars bring Internet, iPod touch

Chysler intros Web Edition

Chrysler is taking the next step in bringing the web into cars with a Web Edition option package due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. Along with an in-car router from Autonet Mobile, the automaker is calling uConnect Web, buyers who opt for the $1,999 package also get Dell's Mini 9 netbook, a Sony PSP, an 8GB iPod Touch and an unnamed digital camera with Eye-Fi wireless SD card. All these devices have Wi-Fi modules that can take advantage of the car's built-in router. One year of service is also included with the Web Edition package.

Chrysler's in-car 3G, Wi-Fi official

Chrysler uconnect Official

Chrysler through its Mopar parts division today made official its uconnect web service. The feature briefly previewed yesterday provides a 3G cellular Internet connection to any Wi-Fi equipped device in a car and effectively gives constant, rolling Internet access to notebooks and handhelds. The network runs over EVDO and gives users downloads between 400Kbps to 800Kbps and uploads at roughly 400Kbps. The speed is enough to allow live streaming video and online gaming, Mopar claims.

Chrysler cars to get 3G, Wi-Fi Internet access

Chrysler UConnect Web

The next model year of Chrysler vehicles will have mobile Internet access as a staple feature, the American car company has said before an official announcement of the vehicles themselves. All of its 2009 models will have the option of UConnect Web, a service that will give the vehicles a 3G cellular Internet connection shared throughout the car over Wi-Fi. The service is intended to let passengers use notebooks and smartphones whenever the car is inside the cellular network's coverage area.
