It is a decade since Star Trek was last on TV, but it's now coming back with a brand-new series which will air starting in January of 2017. What's caused debate, and even consternation, about the news is that after its pilot episode, the show will be made available exclusively on CBS All Access. That's broadcaster CBS's digital subscription service, and the announcement surprised many. However, it shouldn't have been such a shock -- because almost every Star Trek has boldly gone where no show has gone before in terms of using new ways to reach audiences.

Microsoft has unveiled a version of its Skype messaging service designed for broadcasters. Skype TX is called a "studio-grade" software born from its acquisition of broadcast partner Cat and Mouse, which is said to provide a high level of hardware and software integration of Skype into the studio environment for video connections outside the studio.
Logitech has formally announced its new HD Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam aimed at bloggers and video professionals. Previously leaked under the name "Wireless Webcam for Mac", the camera can wirelessly transmit 720p video at a distance of up to 50 feet over Wi-Fi to an iOS device, a Mac, or a Ustream account.
Livestream is taking preorders for its budget HD video encoder, the Livestream Broadcaster. The small red hardware encoder lets users encode HD video and broadcast live via the New Livestream service, requiring a video feed, three AA batteries and an internet connection to operate.
