13-inch Bridgestone e-paper has color touch
Known more lately for its display technology, Bridgestone has just unveiled one of the most advanced e-paper displays yet. The 13-inch screen renders 4,096 colors and also supports touch input. A demo to Tech-On also shows both the display and circuitry to be flexible and capable of bending to a slight but noticeable curve without breaking.

Bridgestone e-paper screen
With the introduction of its latest A4-sized electronic paper display, Bridgestone recently announced it will begin supplying e-book makers with the product. At the same time, Bridgestone will offer a development kit to help developers create prototypes of new devices using the Bridgestone e-paper technology. The latest e-paper display from Bridgestone is ten times faster than the company's previous effort, with a 0.8-second rewrite speed for the 8.3 by 11.7-inch display.

Bridgestone color e-paper
At a trade show in Tokyo this week, Bridgestone showed off a color electronic paper display that has support for pen input. Comprised of Bridgestone's QR-LPD electronic powder and granular material along with a color filter and Wacom's electromagnetic induction-type pen input tablet, the display has a faster refresh speed to accommodate the pen input. It now takes 0.8 seconds to refresh the screen, a marked improvement over Bridgestone's previous A4-sized e-paper display that required between 10 to 15 seconds.

KDDI wireless e-paper
KDDI has shown a prototype of its Portable Viewing System that can display images wirelessly transferred from cellphones on a 13.1-inch electronic paper display in color. What KDDI claims is the first electronic paper display capable of showing images stored in cellphones, the system uses infrared waves to transfer the image from the phone to the display. The display uses Bridgestone's Electronic Liquid Powder technology capable of reproducing 4,096 colors. To redraw the near A4-paper size image, the display needs 12 seconds.
