Fortune on Apple & Amazon
Various Apple products dominated Amazon's bestsellers in electronics during Black Friday, Forbes reports. The morning of the sales event, the iPod touch was the top-selling item, though it was displaced to fourth place by Sunday. Three of the top 10 electronics items are said to have been Apple gear, however, and Kaufman analyst Shaw Wu notes that the lead times for Touches lengthened dramatically, shifting from one to two days to as much as five weeks.

Apple shipping discount
Following in the wake of its one-day Black Friday sale, Apple has posted another single-day special at the online Apple Store. For the duration of Monday only, all products at the store should be eligible for free shipping, regardless of expense. The deal is also not exclusive to the US, and applies to stores such as the ones in Canada, France and the United Kingdom.

Black Friday Amazon
Retailer Amazon.com has reduced the prices on a number of electronics, computer accessories, software applications and more for Black Friday. First up is VMware Fusion 2 priced at $39.99, down $40 off the list price of $79.99. The Altec Lansing iM207 Orbit-MP3 for iPod has been reduced from $39.95 to $14.99. The price on a Hi Fidelity speaker system and charger docking station for iPods has been reduced to $49.99 from $89.99. People can also save $100 on a Sony 1080p Blu-ray disk player, now priced at $199.99, or get a Sylvania Blu-Ray player with an HDMI cable for $179, a drop of roughly $20 off the list price of $199.99.

Analysts on Black Friday
Apple's Black Friday specials are somewhat disappointing, say analysts with UBS and Kaufman Bros. Apple is offering discounts of up to $101 on Macs, and $21 for iPods. The difficulty, the analysts suggest, is that these sales are largely consistent with last year, representing about 5 to 10 percent off instead of predicted cuts as high as 15 percent. It is thought that sales may thus prove to be somewhat disappointing, given biting economic conditions.

Black Friday at App Store
In addition to hardware sales through the Apple Store, more Black Friday deals are being promoted today through the iTunes App Store. A variety of applications are being offered at a discounted rate, such as the multi-client instant messaging app BeejiveIM, which is being sold for $10 until midnight Pacific time on November 30th, after which it will resume its normal $16 cost.

'Aggressive' Black Friday
Apple is likely to cut its prices more heavily than usual during this year's Black Friday event, says Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu. Wu observes that while Apple typically puts goods on sale at a 5 to 10 percent discount on Black Friday, this year may see cuts as high as 15 percent on everything, including Macs, iPods and miscellaneous accessories. The information is said to be based on checks with both suppliers and distributors.

Apple holiday hours
In anticipation of the holiday season, Apple has posted the extended holiday hours for its chain of retail stores. Exact hours are dependent on individual stores, but increase in length as December 25th approaches. Some stores in cities such as Los Angeles and Newark are expected to stay open until 10 or 11PM as soon as November 28th, coinciding with the "Black Friday" shopping peak.

Office Black Friday deal
Microsoft's Mac Business Unit has announced 75-percent-off pricing for Office 2008 for Mac: Special Media Edition during the Black Friday sales period that kicks off the holiday shopping season. The discount will be available online during Thursday and Friday only from Apple, Amazon.com and BestBuy Online. Apple will also offer the deal at its retail stores on Friday. For customers that miss the Black Friday sale, the software will be sold at 50-percent-off retail prices through the end of the year.

Blu-Ray takes Black Friday
Blu-Ray remains the format of choice in the HD world, results from the week of Black Friday show. Data from Nielsen VideoScan reveals that of the HD discs bought during last week, 72.6 percent of them were Blu-Ray titles, leaving HD DVD at 27.4 percent. This is despite a massive influx of HD DVD players from Wal-Mart's $99 sale, and the success of particular titles such as Transformers. Simply by itself, the Blu-Ray version of Live Free or Die Hard sold nearly 100,000 copies, according to one Fox Home Entertainment executive.

Apple tops Dell in growth
Apple topped arch-rival Dell in growth on the busiest shopping day of the year -- Black Friday -- with a 111 percent increase in unique visitors over the prior year. That growth compares to a 29 percent increase for Dell, which brought the company 978,000 unique visitors on Black Friday and 1.26 million visitors on Cyber Monday. Of the estimated 32.5 million visitors logging onto virtual stores on Cyber Monday, most were purchasing items like Apple's iPod and Nintendo's Wii game console, according to Nielson Online as cited by Fortune. Apple received 643,000 unique visits from home users on Black Friday, followed by 1.35 million unique hits on Cyber Monday.

Zune Black Friday Sales
Microsoft's Zune series was beaten only by the core video game market in terms of online sales for the Black Friday weekend following Thanksgiving, say studies from multiple online retailers. PriceGrabber, Shopping.com, and auction site eBay all report the Zune occupying the second place position behind the Nintendo Wii and similarly high-profile consoles and their games. Most of this is split between the old Zune 30 and the newer Zune 80, according to the claims. Part of this is believed to be connected to the low cost and upgradability Zune 30, which has frequently been selling near half price at $100 but can also be upgraded to the same improved interface as the latest players.

$101 off MacBooks, iMacs
Apple has started its annual "Black Friday" sale, offering $101 discounts on MacBooks and new aluminum iMacs as well as $11 discounts on the iPod nano and iPod shuffle. In addition, the company is offering up to $31 discounts on the iPod classic (all iPods come with free engraving) as well as many discounts on cases -- now starting at $7. The company is also discounting its wireless devices, including offering the AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi router (with 802.11n networking) for $158 ($21 reduction) and AirPort Express for $88 ($11 discount). The Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse is now $11 off at $58, while the Apple Bluetooth headset is now $108 (discounted by $21). iPhone cases are now available starting at $7 as well.
