BBC bringing iPlayer streaming app to fourth-generation Apple TV
The BBC has confirmed it is bringing iPlayer to the new Apple TV in the future, but not at the set-top box's launch. The popular on-demand video streaming service, which allows viewers in the United Kingdom to watch missed content from the broadcaster's collection of TV channels and radio stations, will be arriving on the fourth-generation Apple TV in the coming months according to BBC director-general Tony Hall.
Bungie to release Destiny beta for Xbox July 23
Bungie's first-person shooter game, Destiny, will be available in beta for Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers starting July 23. Announced last month for PS4 as an alpha preview (beginning July 17), the online, multiplayer beta will run until July 28. Two deluxe versions of the game are available for pre-order: a $150 Ghost edition and a $100 limited edition in several collectable versions. The official full launch of Destiny is scheduled for September 9.
Year-long trial to allow 40-hours of online programming
The BBC Trust is allowing the BBC to put some of its television programs onto the BBC iPlayer on-demand service before being broadcast. The 12-month trial will consist of up to 40 hours of assorted TV shows appearing on iPlayer ahead of their scheduled transmission through normal channels, as the corporation tests it's effectiveness.
BBC iPlayer gets updated to v. 1.2.5
The BBC has added AirPlay sharing for its popular Global iPlayer iPad app (free, App Store). Version 1.2.5 of the app now allows users watch their content on a TV by pushing it to their Apple TV. The app gives users the ability to stream high quality TV programming over a 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
