Parrot has added three more Android-based car stereo systems to go alongside the Asteroid, including some with touch capabilities. The Asteroid Smart replaces an existing head unit, while the Tablet and the Mini are both designed to work in tandem with other car stereos, using the amplifier and speakers already installed in the vehicle.
Parrot, which started off with cellphone peripherals, including Bluetooth headsets, has now made its Asteroid in-car head unit official. First seen at CES early this year, the head unit is the only one in the industry to run on Android. It sports a 3.2-inch screen and ships with a GPS dongle, while a mobile broadband USB port will let users connect their own for Internet connection.
Parrot, known for its Bluetooth and audio accessories for vehicles, has brought a new Asteroid head unit to CES. The CD drive-less radio uses a customized version of Google's Android OS and three USB ports in the rear that will allow users to plug in their own USB thumb drives full of music. One of them is reserved for a USB 3G dongle, whose data connection can be used to download new apps approved for use by the device and in cars.
