On Tuesdays and Fridays, MacNN takes a few minutes to round up important goings-on in the Mac and iOS gaming world. In today's entry we look at Aspyr's decision to being phasing out support for older OS X releases, the Mac release of They Bleed Pixels, the announcement of new HearthStone heroes, and the latest featured Overwatch character.

The game requires OS X 10.9.5 or greater, an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 8GB of drive space, and at least the Intel HD 4000 with 256MB of VRAM. Civilization: Beyond Earth retails for $50. If there was a game series introduced in the last 10 years that broke the mold for first-person shooters, it's the Borderlands franchise from Gearbox Software. Generous heaps of role-playing game (RPG) elements, cookie-cutter shooter tropes, and sacks full of humor are artfully baked into a game series that begs for consumption. Gearbox Software and 2K Australia teamed up for the latest tasty morsel in the Borderlands series, releasing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to bring players to a new frontier of humorous action.
Mac owners and fans of the cel-shaded shooter series set on Pandora will be happy to learn that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is launching on OS X alongside PC and game consoles on October 14. Aspyr Media is publishing the title, working with Gearbox Software and 2K Games to make the simultaneous launch possible. The game will support cross-platform multiplayer, as well as content through Gearbox Software's Shift or Steam if purchased there.
Anki Drive, a line of toy race cars that feature iOS compatibility, has updated its Anki Drive app, as well as released new cars and tracks. Using AI robotics, Anki Drive aims to integrate the nature of video games into a physical game context, requiring Anki cars, a physical track, and at least one compatible iOS device to play. The new cars, Corax and Hadion ($70 each) are the newest "characters" for Anki Drive, with Hadion featuring Turbo Boost speeds capabilities. Corax, on the other hand, has the option to mount multiple weapons.
Sim City 4's original release on OS X had a bum rap, mostly as a virtue of timing. The first release, in 2003, was aimed at the PowerPC architecture, and games often got short shrift when Apple migrated to Intel. The title worked on Rosetta, but not well. In 2007, Aspyr released an Intel patch for the game, but it ran poorly, and crashed often. Surprisingly, last week, Aspyr re-released the game with more burly hardware requirements, but this time, Intel-optimized.
The Mac Game Store has released its latest four-game bundle promotion, the Aspyr Greatest Hits Bundle. The deal is a compilation of Aspyr Media's most popular releases, such as Civilization V, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and offers a savings of over 67 percent compared to purchasing each game separately.
Game porting company Aspyr has revealed that the world domination turn-based strategy game Civilization V has a new package available -- Civilization V: Gold Edition is now shipping for OS X. The new revision includes every piece of Civilization V content, including the base game, all downloadable content, and the Gods and Kings expansion.

Adele's '25' album now streaming
Recording artist Adele has "pulled a Kanye" after saying that her current album "25" would not be available for streaming. The seven-month-old record, which has yielded a number of hit singles, is now available for streaming on all the major streaming services, such as Apple Music and Spotify, as of today in most major markets, with worldwide distribution to come. Reportedly, the singer had demanded streaming be limited to paid subscribers -- a condition that has hurt some streamers with artists, who aren't paid royalties for free or trial listens . Apple pays performers its normal royalty rates during its free trial, avoiding the issue -- and having repeated success in both signing up exclusives and placing those exclusives into the top of the charts. http://ti.me/28U7NOu

Fifth Hong Kong store to open June 30
The 46th official Apple store in what the company calls the "Greater China" region will open at 10AM local time in Hong Kong's New Town Plaza in the Sha Tin district on Thursday, June 30, according to a new page on Apple's retail website. Despite slowing growth due to economic turmoil in China, the country is still Apple's fastest-growing market. The new story will be the fifth for Hong Kong, a lucrative market for Apple thanks to the high concentration of wealth there and a thriving "gray" market. Normal store hours for the new store will be 10AM to 10PM every day. http://apple.co/291diaT
Apple Music bug bites very short songs
There appears to be a reproducible bug in the current version of iTunes -- version 12.4.1, running on OS X 10.11.5, both the current non-beta versions of the respective software -- that causes a streamed song to become "stuck" in endless buffering if the streamed item just before this happened was 60 seconds or less in length. The problem appears to stem from code in iTunes that signals the next track to start downloading one minute before the currently-playing track is done, and thus songs shorter than one minute don't trigger the download. Locally-stored music is unaffected by the bug, and the problem does not appear to exist in either the macOS Sierra developer beta or versions of iTunes earlier than 12.4, and does not affect the iOS Music app at all. http://bit.ly/291cN0l
Walmart Pay expands to 15 states
Walmart, one of the key progenitors of the failed CurrentC mobile payment system that was distinguished from Apple Pay by its ability to collect and share customer financial and buying data among its participants, has expanded the soft rollout of its alternative solution "Walmart Pay" to an additional 15 US states following a pilot program in Arkansas and Texas last month. Walmart continues to resist adding Apple Pay. The system, built into the Walmart app for iOS and Android, works with a complicated system of the camera scanning a purchase code at the register, then generating a QR code which is then scanned by the register. The system is available now in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, DC. http://apple.co/28SqZfu
