Huawei has updated the Ascend Mate smartphone line, with the release of the Ascend Mate 7. The phablet, announced at IFA today, has a six-inch 1080p display packed into its 185g (6.5 ounces), 7.9mm-thick (0.31 inches) aluminum body, giving the smartphone a pixel density of 367ppi and extremely thin bezels on either side of the screen.
An update to the Huawei Ascend Mate phablet has allegedly been spotted on the Sina Weibo Chinese microblogging site. The new images appear to show it as having a relatively similar appearance to the original, retaining the 6.1-inch 720x1280 display, but the smooth and pronounced curve on the back of the brushed metal frame appears to have been slightly flattened, possibly to minimize rolling when laid on a surface.
AT&T has teased that it will be launching something on July 16th at a special event. An e-mail sent to media asking to "Get ready for what's next in wireless," and while it provides little in the way of clues as to what it could be for, Slashgear suggests it could be the launch of a number of smartphones and other mobile devices on the carrier, such as the new Nokia Lumia phone with a 41-megapixel camera expected to be revealed by the manufacturer tomorrow.
Huawei is at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, as you might have guessed, and they're showing off their Ascend Mate phablet. The 6.1-inch Ascend Mate -- that is: six and one-tenth actual inches -- showed up on video late last year, but it sort of had to be seen to be believed. Topping even Samsung's Galaxy Note II, does the new Ascend Mate's extra girth give it an edge over other phone-tablet hybrids?
