Android port for Raspberry Pi spotted, nears release

Development team suggests release candidate one month away

A port of Android 4.0 for the Raspberry Pi is getting closer to release. An update from the Raspberry Pi blog shows a video demonstrating the most recent Ice Cream Sandwich build running on the credit card-sized computer, as development nears completion. The stumbling block delaying the release centers around AudioFlinger, the audio software used by Android, which is still being worked on by the developer.

Samsung Galaxy Note gets ICS, Premium Suite, multi-core support

The Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) has received its long promised update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The revised firmware (XXLPY 4.0.3, build date May 4) is rolling out to users over-the-air in Germany and the Netherlands at the time of writing. It brings with it Samsung’s revamped TouchWiz UI and its new Premium Suite of S-pen based apps including S Note, Shape Match and My Story.


Archos ships G9 ICS tablet with Android 4.0 preloaded

10.1-inch still ships with Android 3.2

Last week, Archos began rolling out Android 4.0 upgrades to its 80 G9 and 101 G9 tablet customers. This week, the company has begun shipping the premium turbo version of the 8-inch model with Android ICS pre-loaded. The company has indicated on its storefront that the 10.1-inch turbo model will begin shipping in April.

Nook Color bootloader bypassed using microSD

The Barnes & Noble Nook Color has had its boot loader by-passed and Android 4.0 successfully installed. @Nemith, an XDA Developers forum member, has posted the first images of a Nook Color running CynaogenMod 9 with Android 4.0 also running. The workaround was made possible by using a microSD card to install CynaogenMod9, which enabled the tablet to be booted from there instead of the built-in storage without erasing the standard software.
