It is now possible to get money out from a bank account via Apple Pay, as Bank of America has started to roll out ATMs capable of using Apple Pay for transactions in a limited number of markets. Hinted at earlier this year, the first ATMs that are compatible with Apple Pay for withdrawals have been spotted in California, expanding a recent pilot program consisting of two ATMs based in the Bay Area of San Francisco into other markets.
A new report confirmed by the head of Wells Fargo's ATM division suggests that at least two large US banks are working on adding NFC secure payment functionality to automatic teller machines, giving customers the option of simply waving their smartphone or Apple Watch to use Apple Pay-style authentication rather than the traditional debit card insertion and PIN confirmation entry. The system will also support other mobile wallets, and is being tested with Android Pay currently.
Video game developers Neversoft and Infinity Ward will see their positions as independent studios under Activision Publishing come to an end, as the two studios merge under the Infinity Ward banner. Neversoft, mostly known for its work on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, helped Infinity Ward with the latest installment of the Call of Duty franchise game Ghosts. The Neversoft name will be retired after existing for almost 20 years. The studio was acquired by Activision in 1999.
A unnamed European bank chain fell victim to a software hack on its range of ATMs earlier this year, and researchers have figured out how it was done. The researchers, who wish to remain anonymous found that criminals cut holes in the armored exterior of machines, to plug in malware-laden USB flash drives installing code into the ATMs that allowed the thieves access to the cash dispensing functions of the device.
Bank of America is adding video conferencing to its automatic teller machines. The video chat facility will allow bank customers to see and speak to tellers in order to perform more advanced bank transactions than would normally be available to an ATM user, as well as providing a more personal experience to users.
