ARRIS shells out $2.35 billion to Google for Motorola Home

Google gains 15.7 percent stake in ARRIS in already-approved sale

Communications technology company ARRIS Group and Google today jointly announced that ARRIS and Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility have entered into an agreement under which ARRIS will acquire the Motorola Home business from Motorola Mobility for $2.35 billion in a combined cash and stock transaction. The sale has already been approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

Moxi stops selling DVR gear, dates end of service

After its ups and downs, the Moxi DVR hardware is slowly being phased out at retail, maker Arris announced. The hardware cannot be purchased anymore, and program guide data and technical support for the DVRs will go dead at the end of the day on December 31, 2013. Arris will focus on its partnerships with cable providers, such as with Shaw Cable in Canada.

Shaw Cable brings back Moxi DVR as Arris Gateway

Moxi DVRs are now available yet again, but have unusually been confined to Canada. Shaw Cable is offering the device, now known as the Shaw Gateway, while the Moxi Mate is now called the Portal. The device has six tuners and a built-in 500GB hard drive.

Droid's success leads Moto to rework strategy

Motorola is considering backtracking on its plans to spin off its mobile business, a leak from near the company suggests (subscription required). Runaway sales of phones like the Droid, along with bids for the mobile division that have run roughly $1 billion lower than the $4 billion to $5 billion Motorola wants, have led the communication firm to think about keeping the mobile division inside.

Moxi DVRs get lower prices, new models, functions

ARRIS, the recent owner of Digeo and its Moxi-branded DVRs, announced on Monday it has overhauled the Moxi line and given it new features. This includes adding a three-tuner version of the Moxi HD DVR and introducing a new Moxi multi-room package that includes the new three-tuner Moxi. At the same time, ARRIS has dropped the price of its existing dual-tuner Moxi HD DVR. The new three-tuner Moxi HD DVR lets users record up to three channels at the same time and watch a program already recorded.
